I've been on Latuda for a couple months and it's really been helping. I just got upped from 40 to 60mg a couple weeks ago. I took my Rx to the pharmacy and started taking 1 1/2 tabs of my 40mg as instructed, while waiting for the 40mg tablets. Figured it would take a couple days to be authorized, like the first time I got the 40mg. The increased dose is really helping and I'm sleeping much better.
Nearly 2 weeks later, still not authorized. Just got a text from my pdoc who says hes still working to get it approved. It's Thursday, and I know the pharmacy always waits for approval before ordering the medication which takes 2-3 days to get. I have 7 tablets of 40mg left. Guess I'm tapering to 40mg and hoping I have enought to hold out. How much pathology comes from needless anxiety over medications??? Seriously this sucks. |

Can you ask your pdoc for samples?

I would get a refill on the 40s. If insurance approves 60s you’ll have extra pills.
My insurance company always approves dose changes without making me wait. I think that’s typical but you could check. Blue Bicycle’s suggestion is really good. |

I can’t get a refill on the 40’s, it’s too early since I’ve been taking a pill and a half on my pdoc’s instructiin. He does not have samples. I’m just going to have to taper till I get my proper dose authorized.

Your Pdoc can authorize a refill while they wait on prior auth for increased dose

Call your insurance company and see if you can get the name of a person that has denied your claim. Tell them you need it for a form to file a complaint with the insurance commissioner.
If they tell you that you can appeal instead, just tell them that is fine, you’ll do that, but first you’re filing the complaint with the commissioner. This works for me. I’ve never had to do any of it, they just suddenly approve things because they don’t want the commissioner looking into anything. |

This won't make you feel any better, but I didn't notice much change when I went from 40mg to 60mg. My understanding is that it's not considered a huge change for Latuda, if you can hold on until it's sorted out. Personally I wouldn't taper if you have enough left because then you'll be getting even less than 40mg some days. I've missed my whole Latuda dose more than once and didn't suffer.

This is all really good to know. My Pdoc texted to say that I can get a free 14day supply of the 60mg from the company if the auth doesn’t come through on time. Also the pharmacist said if that doesn’t work he can sell me a few doses until the auth comes through.
Such hoops to jump through for a few pills! |
