Has anyone had any success with medical cannabis for there Bi Polar, ADHD, and sleep.
I have been going to a doctor three years and spinning my wheels with trial and error with different prescription meds and my family is concerned and asked me to try a different approach. Not going off my current meds but seeing if it will help with sleep, anxiety, anger, bi polar symptoms and ADHD. Has anyone here had any success with medical cannabis it just became legal here in Maryland. can anyone share what strains have been most effective for them? |

I was on a fb group for depression and anxiety (I can’t remember which one, but it has very high membership). A great deal of the members were bipolar and discussed this a lot.
I had to leave because of two men that zeroed in on me, freaking me out. I didn’t think I would have that problem in my 50s. A lot of women and the admins complained about that. So if you go looking on fb, I would just read without posting. |

Your experience depends on the strain you're using. Some people get paranoia and panic attacks, while others are cool, calm, and collected. So it could go either way. It's a classic risk vs reward. But aren't all meds that way? Everyone reacts to pot differently.
Just be careful about your job if you have one because your bosses might not like the whole cannabis thing. Doesn't matter if it's legal to do pot or not. They'll find some BS excuse to screw you over, or possibly fire you. For example, "pat86 was late to two meetings, so we had to fire pat86." That's a total lie, but then YOU have to prove that they fired you for the pot. At that point, I'd say good luck with that because there's no way to prove that they lied. That's my only caution. |

Using it recreationally screwed me in a BP sense, but I have had those cannabis oil pills and they help tremendously with nightmares and staying asleep without making me psychotic. Even though my state has medicinal marijuana, you have to have a qualifying condition before anyone will recommend it (cancer, epilepsy, etc). Every state is different and I don't know Maryland's laws, but bipolar or any other mental illness (except severe PTSD) is not a qualifying condition here.
That being said, you can still get it. Just not legally if Maryland's laws are closer to ours. Last edited by Anonymous43918; May 03, 2018 at 02:08 PM.. Reason: "prescribe" was the wrong word |

Daily prescription cannabis user here. I was told to take cbd for anxiety and 1:1 (thc:cbd) for sleep. I actually just use full thc to sleep as I like the high and relaxing. I'm currently experimenting with how I react to indica vs sativa.
I'm in Canada and got my script for anxiety and sleep. Though it is to be legalized here shortly anyways. Note that i still need prescription meds. Pot replaced benzos and sleeping pills, but I still take lithium, Zoloft and vyvanse daily. |

I was told to start using something similar for sleep at night by a dispensary . This what they told me: is a tincture by Dixie that supplies a 1:1 ratio of THC:CBD… this allows us to be much more accurate with our dosing. I would suggest 0.5ml about 15 minutes before bedtime. You will want to hold the liquid in your mouth for about 45 seconds, then swallow. This will give you a very minimal dosage of the medicine – 1 mg each of THC and CBD. I would suggest doing this at bedtime for a few nights, and then letting me know what you notice. I am not expecting anything profound to happen from this dose – it’s a test to see ho you tolerate and what your sensitivity is… then we’ll begin to increase the dosage incrementally. |

Cbd is non psychoactive so I would look for strains high in cbd.
Personally ,as much as I love marijuana its almost the worst thing that's ever happened to me. I self medicate and the thc, after long enough almost always spirals me into a mania psychosis that seems to get worse every time. If you do your research most studies have determined that it worsens this condition. That is why bipolar and schizophrenia aren't qualifying conditions for medicinal states. I'm sure there are the few out there that it helps with. I know how much it helped with my sleep and depression and ibs. And I'm sure ill go down that road again but I have to stay away from it at the moment. Favorite is blue dream. |

I saw that as well when I researched it . I saw people recommending strains that were high in CBD but low in THC as it would cause mania. Some people said they had to use strains like ACDC in California and had to use Charlettes web in Colorado. What was your reaction when you took the blue dream ? what problems or issues did it help with? I have seen that mentioned before. |

Not myself although a prescription has been offered. The truth? I am a little scared of the fact I have no clue how to use it and am convinced I will look like an idiot. But, it still is something I am considering once edibles become available here on prescription.
In the meantime while I can't answer your question from personal experience I can tell you that those I am aware are users swear by its effectiveness. There are a number of people in my support group example who I have actually observed been happier and better able to manage their emotional health. |

From what I remember blue dream made me feel like my original self. Kept me happy , motivated, and very creative. The thing about pot is it has the ability to change your mood in an instant where anti depressants take weeks and after long enough usually become unaffective. I wish there was more research on this topic it is crazy how there is so little known about this medicine. Hopefully more research will be done within the near future. |

I had a friend several years ago who was a grower & gave me mj to help me sleep. This was before it was legal in Calif. He had good stuff that helped me fall asleep and sleep well for a few hours. But then, the usual...I woke up with insomnia.

I am not neccessarily talking about anyone here, including the OP, but many use their condition as an excuse to try out weed to get high. I think a great many do. Anyways, from my research, it’s the non psychoactive CBD part that helps with depression. I was told this by the largest distributor of weed in the state of Michigan. She has pdocs working for her. This is why I listen to her. So when I see a person focus strictly on the THC part alone, then this tells me that they want to get high. Now this is not something I can judge as being good or bad. It is a personal choice. My thoughts can be considered irrelevant, and this would be fine. I am just making an observation here. Also many pdocs want their patient not to be on weed or other psychoactive chemicals while they continue as a patient. Once they find out, they can drop the person as their patient for what is IMO good reason. There are many other ways besides this to get to sleep.
Now that I have said all of that, I will also say that I personally have thought of trying out weed, specifically the CBD part. I think it can come in the form of pills. But if I need to, I will smoke the stuff if it will help me. But instead I do really want to take it as a pill or concentrate. Why smoke it when it is not necessary? Tucson , I have fought against using any kind of drug other then prescription drugs my whole life. I am 31 and have never smoked pot or any drug or even alcohol to be very honest and frank. I always stayed away from those things and fought to only use prescription drugs my whole life. Recently in the past 3 years I have tried over 25 different meds with my doctor and not gotten anywhere. In fact many of the medications I have tried have caused me to have suicidal ideation and extreme guilt and shame from either side effects or withdrawl from things like paxil, cymbalta , and ambien. I have read about people who actually did commit suicide trying to come off those drugs. I don't know about you but I am tired of spinning my wheels and going no where except horrible side effects which end up making me worse then when I started. My doctor is $200 for half an hour and I have had to see him several times a year for the past three years. So I have spent a lot of money and time trying to find solutions with prescription medications. I am looking into Medical Cannabis as it was suggested by my family . It was not my idea. But they are concerned that I have tried so many medications and not gotten anywhere and are very concerned about how some of these medications make me appear or act with the side effects. So they suggested I try something different that is not shown to have side effects and many people swear by it and it has proven to help people when nothing else does. Also if you talk to a doctor who is familiar with medical cannabis you can take CBD oil along with the medical cannabis to counteract the high so you don't get high at all just the medical benefits of the CBD. All I am trying to do is get good sleep, reduce my anxiety and help with my bipolar. I am in no way looking for a quick fix to get high. |

I apologize. I was speaking more to the general audience here. We got to do what we got to do to remain mentally healthy. As we all know, if we do not have our mental health, we can be really screwed. Physical health is right up there too. This is why I am considering the stuff too. Before this point in time, I would of thought myself crazy to consider smoking weed. Now I am not so sure about this.

I really wish I could remember that fb group. They would talk about which strains helped and which strains were bothersome. I think it was a depression and anxiety “closed group” and they had chats by age group.

I think there is so much stigma against weed. You don't often here people raging on against alcohol and cigarettes, though those killed my parents (one drunk walked in front of a car and one pancreatic cancer).
The truth is that like any drug it works for some people and not for others. I had been warned about the potential for psychosis in bipolar. However I was an occasional smoker before hand so I felt comfortable. There are so many different types and strains you have to do your research. The oils were fabulous, but they made my reflex worse. Edibles are awesome, but they are incredibly potent. You would never eat a whole brownie unless you have a super high tolerance. I also have pipes, bongs and a vaporizer to smoke. Each one is different. Here when you get your script you meet with someone after who discusses all this stuff with You, which is nice. I'm also a member in two cannabis clubs and they are full of information. Yes it reduces anxiety for me. Yes it helps me sleep. Yes I also enjoy getting backed and relaxing as I can be so wound up. I'm not saying everyone should use cannabis. All I'm saying is its a valid option. I have a couple friends even (legally) growing their own plants. The medical opinions around cannabis are changing. |

Medical user.
You have two families of cannabis. Indica, from (India) is mid-to-high in THC, and is calming and relaxing. I smoke a few bowls at night in the form of a Color-Kush variety. Sativa is originally from Eastern Asia, too, and has a larger amount of THC (on average). I smoke Loud during the day and it keeps me going strong (and, maybe, a little creative). I smoke so very little of either. What I smoke helps my BP symptoms. Prices are going down. Capitalism at work. __________________ amicus_curiae Contrarian, esq.
