I think finding Ts and pdocs is so hard. It always seems like either they don't take your insurance or they aren't taking new patients when you call.

Have you tried calling your insurance company and seeing if they can give you a list of who is in-network? Some insurances will even call around and find one that's taking new clients for you.
Thanks for this!

I used Psychology Today's finder. Seemed to work okay.
Thanks for this!

Psychology Today's website is how I found my last therapist. I like that that website allows people to filter lists according to many criteria, including insurance, types of therapy provided, specialties, etc. I believe therapists are also responsible for writing their own profiles. That gave me a little sense of what the therapists we're about. Most even included photos. Though that may not seem a good way of further filtering, it can be in reasonable ways.

I also started with an online list from my insurance and then did the best research I could do online. It could just be my insurance, but very few therapists on the list had a Psychology Today page. I was startled by how goofy some of their own web sites were.

One thing you always hear is that if your rapport with your therapist is good, nothing else matters. I didn't find that to be true when I was first looking. Not the method, maybe, but the aim of the therapy mattered to me and then some more petty things. like distance, session timing, and even the office I'm going to be intimate with my therapist in. My therapist now, though, works medium far, has irregular session times and a crappy office that she could make much better, so in the end those didn't matter that much, but I miss the sweet guy I tried first and his big cozy office. Distance played a part in leaving him, but mostly it was goals.

Also I didn't find therapist sites' information about insurance to be very accurate. If you call to make an appointment check that they do take your insurance.

I have Medicare and it is so damn hard to find anyone that takes it. The 9 months I spent in Florida I could not find a single one that took it and had a wait list less than 4-5 months.

I agree look on line this weekend and Monday AM call your insurance they can email a list of providers that take your insurance..

Hope you find someone quickly

Exactly this.

It’s how I found my current therapist.

Therapists and doctors affiliated with a hospital are likely to take Medicare--my GP, my psychiatrist, and my therapist all take it through the hospital.
