The police who helped me when the man in the antique shop downstairs tried to beat down my door because he believed the water leak was my fault were so great. Then they sat and talked to me and calmed me down because they know my story. I live in a town of 5,000 people. It's always been the same 2 police officers all the time. When I've have strange PTSD/Psychosis events they sit in my apartment and talk with me until the ambulance arrives. They always smile and pet my dog and cat. Whenever I see a police car I feel safe with my anxiety disorders. Yesterday they pulled up to me when I was walking my dog and asked me how I was doing. It made me feel a lot better. I'm sad because I'm moving to a city of 25,000 people and I won't know the same police officers anymore. A couple months ago they pulled up and asked me how Constance (my dog) and Sunshine (my cat) were doing. I know the police get a bad reputation in America, but the ones in small towns, at least this town, are so nice. So I wrote them a letter saying that I will miss them, but I am moving and I appreciate everything they did for me. I hope they like my letter.

Oh that's so nice of you to write them a letter like that. I'm sure they'll appreciate it!
I understand how moving to a larger town is scary. It's a significant change in your life. However 25000 isn't that large, i suspect there will still be a kind of family type atmosphere. I live in a town of 18000 and it seems everyone knows everyone and people are kind and friendly. So I think it's very possible you'll find good and supportive people in your new home, too. Fingers crossed that your change goes smoothly and you'll only meet sweet people in your way! |

That's so cool. Cops (as a general rule) get an undeservedly bad reputation. It sounds like the cops in your small town are a special breed, though. A town of 25,000 is still pretty small, so you might find the police to be just as professional & courteous as the ones you're leaving. It's great that you wrote them a letter.

That is so nice of you! It makes me happy thinking about how those cops will appreciate your letter. I have only had good experiences with cops during my manias (mostly mixed). It's true that there are some bad ones out there, but I definitely think most are really great.

How thoughtful of you! I have had my ups and downs with cops, but the good ones are great and I doubt they often receive thank you's from the public they serve.

Positive karma!!!
![]() Your thanks will likely reinforce their positive behaviors, too! I do understand how moving to a more populated area might make you feel more vulnerable. I hope any future interactions with the police will be as pleasant for you! I tend to step up and thank police officers for their service, just as I do a military vet. Some seem surprised, yet pleasantly so. Thanks so much for sharing! ![]() WC

Everybody should speak according to personal experiences.
Mine have been mixed. I've seen police brutality first hand. I've been treated mostly with respect. Only rookies get cocky I guess. Either they mellow down, or are kicked out sooner or later. My case is more complicated. I have issues with all authorities. Judicial, penal, scholar, clerical and marital. The armed forces, the police, the firemen, the politicians, the teachers, the parents, the priests, the judges, the inspectors, the press, even security guards represent authority. I hate authority and all of those that represent it. Did I mention I hate authority?. I also hate most of the people that admire those on authority posts. And call them heros for saving a cat. Authoritiy lover in general.
