My mood doesn't change gradually. I wake up one morning and boom: depressed. Just curious how others experience mood changes, like a light switch or gradual?

(Interestingly, when I experience psychosis that comes on gradually. It's the total opposite with moods.)

Speaking for myself, I change personality like 2 to 6 or u times a day. I try to write it all down, but not even I can understand it.

You might just need a break from routine. It helps

It depends. Usually I'm gradually more hypomanic around this time because of the season and all the light. Other times it's event-triggered. I'm more concerned because once the kids move out I'll feel more wanting to fix this house to sell, which may go into mania. Then I'll just have no cruise control until I crash.

It varies. Usually light-switch, though.

I go gradually into episodes, but light-switch out of them. It’s not always 100% out of them, but I can tell when I have turned the proverbial corner.

Sorry, I should have mentioned that I used to drink every day while on it. I heard Zyprexa is a magic drug for some. Just wasn't for me...

I’m a light switch. I hate not knowing whether I’m going to wake up sui or manic.

Generally light switch, especially going in. Coming out can be more gradual.

Zyprexa shot me out of the manic sky. I hoard a bottle for emergencies. It is exceptionally fast acting and super effective. They did you right; I hope it works for you.

Definitely gradual except if I am going into a mixed episode. That dysphoria just smacks me right across the face out of nowhere...

I've experienced both gradual and "light switch", but most often gradual. The gradual changes have sometimes prevented me from having as much insight into my mood changes as would've been good.

What is often more "light switch" is my change from hypomania to full blown mania. I have a tendency to become hypomanic and then stay hypomanic for quite a while (even up to months), then something triggers it to the next level, and BOOM!. When it does, psychosis can often start quickly, too. Another thing that happens light switch for me is going from euphoric full blown manic to full blown manic with mixed features. That can happen within hours or even minutes, in a couple of cases.

Light switch start and then often worsens gradually. Recovery from depression is always gradual. Recovery form hypomania can be either but most often gradual.

I've experienced both. Usually, it's sudden, but sometimes not, especially when heading toward depression. Getting hypomanic tends to be more sudden for me, but once there, I will gradually work up to full-blown mania if I don't put a stop to it.

I have felt myself go from normal to hypomanic to manic in 12 hours. With depression, it kind of sneaks up on me...I don't just wake up one morning and boom, I'm depressed, it comes on gradually over the course of a few weeks, and it goes away just as slowly.

Gradual rise into psychotic mania; light switch depression is the common rule (there have been some exceptions)

It's very gradual. Takes days or weeks. And it's very subtle. Sneaky even. I can go from normal to manic or even psychotic without even noticing it until people point it out to me.
