I got put on steroids for inflammation, and my mild depression went to moderate.
![]() I had some things happen at work that stressed me out and left me questioning my adequacy and value. I left work today with really negative thoughts including self-loathing. I also keep obsessing about a mistake I made, that wasn’t a huge deal but was enough to make me feel like an idiot. ![]() I called the pharmacist, and he said I could stop the steroids since my depression was getting worse. If you were me, would you wait for the steroids to get out of your system and moods to stabilize and then see pdoc around mid-July? Or would you call tomorrow and see if you can be seen sooner, since I’ve had depression for a while already?

I’d call tomorrow. No point in staying in a lower mood if it can be prevented.

Every time I've been on high doses of steroids, I've gone to manic town. I have never experienced depression. How much Abilify are you taking, MusicLover?

I have steroids occasionally for my asthma and they make me feel very fragile and vulnerable, for me that usually provokes lower mood but I can see how if you have that tendency, it could also provoke a manic response as a defence mechanism.

15 mg. I usually react with hypomania, too. This time was different.

If you've already had depression and the steroids made it worse--actually it would be a tossup. The pdoc may try to help but won't know the results until the steroids wore off.
