I've done it both on and in food that I eventually ate. I've also eaten other food while having sex, like leftover Thanksgiving dressing, a Subway sammich, White Castles in a movie theater that didn't sell them, popcorn in a theater that did, and of course all manner of candies. Just adds flavors.
