Anyone find any meds or other techniques that help with irritability/rage in particular related to moods? I guess mood stabilization in general would help. For anyone who took Lamictal did it help..hasn't helped much yet but waiting to see? What about any PRN meds that have worked? I'll ask my psychiatrist next time we speak but curious about your experiences with this. Thanks as always.

For me it was the stabilization of my moods that ended my rage (now I am rarely even angry). When I was symptomatic, I would take a klonapin and that seemed to help at least some.

Lamictal is the Tylenol of the psych drugs. Every doctor prescribes it. Regardless of consecuences.
I crashed my beloved "Hooker" in a manuver that would have been routine to me. It retards your brain. The reactions are blurry and slow. You get lost for words, specially spelling. I've been begging to get rid of it. TG I'm at sub therapeutical level @ 50mg a day now. Good luck with it. Cheers.

I have had serious problems with anger, rage, and fury. Extreme anger for me is a strong symptom of mania. When I am on a mood stabilizer that works my anger drops down to "normal". The only mood stabilizer that has worked for me is Lamictal. Yes, I know it is a popularly prescribed med these days, but that might be because it actually helps stabilize bipolar disorder.
As for Lamictal side effects, I have found that there are very few. An advantage to Lamictal is that it does not usually cause weight gain - unlike most psych meds. One possible disadvantage (for me) with regard to Lamictal is that it might possibly cause some "flatness"...even a tendency toward some mild depression. I don't like that feeling at all, so I'm going to speak with my pdoc about it when I see her this week. Maybe I need to lower the dose I'm on. Anyway, I don't think anything truly takes away bipolar anger (which to me is so different than normal anger) except a mood stabilizer. |

My psychiatrist did offer me a prescription for PRN klonapin. Maybe I should actually try it. Thanks!
