I have been on ssi since january. I have dealt with the general cycles of bipolar, currently in depression. I feel like I'm getting better though and today applied for a part time job. I know you are allowed to work part time on ssi but I worry I will get taken off ssi if I start doing really good then my bipolar will strike again and I'll have nothing.

Whatch out with SSI! Look it up to be certain about the limitations. SSDI permits me $840 80 hours a month limitations. I remember reading somewhere that SSI is much less.

Update: Go to a lawyer. You cannot afford to make mistakes. There are a rather complex set of rules that determine the income you can make while on SSI. Also there is a stipulation that earned income can reduce your SSI benefit. You can find this here in the paragraph “Working and SSI Benefits”. This is one of the major differences between SSI and SSDI on this topic.

SSI and SSDI gets twitchy when a person starts working. Usually it increases your reviews to happen more often.

If you want to work start out slow
