When I was heavily medicated I'd hardly talk. I'm not good with small talk in general. I felt like I had no personality. It was very sad.

I have always been bad at "small talk". I end up talking about work or listening to others. But as I think about it, what really are "general topics". When I hear others, they talk about sports, news, politics, or other specific topics. Maybe you can identify similar interests with people that you want to conversate with. Recent movies might be a good start?

I'm so-so with small talk. Depends on the topic. Also depends where I am mood-wise. When I am very depressed forget about it. If I'm hypo, I'll yap with (at, lol) almost anyone(!) But I almost never say anything much about myself. It's too much of a minefield of secrets and cognitive dissonance. I might tell you if I missed the bus, but you won't hear about anything personal. So even though I don't like small talk in general (when people start talking about their kids and relatives and like what, you're supposed to be able to keep it all straight(?!), I just want to throw myself under some shrubbery! Or a table!), light stuff is about all anyone gets out of me. Ironic, eh? ![]() |
