ive had more than one episode of psychotic depression, so I think I'm ideally supposed to be on an atypical tranquilizer (and probably not the one I take) and an antidepressant, indefinitely. and yet...
id really rather not, thanks. LOL. The Abilify @ 20mgs is a godsend, but it doesn't do much for depression. when I get the blues, its odd...its almost as if i can tell that if I wasn't on the abilify, I'd be losing weight, haunted by low grade voices, some paranoia, etc... but "they" want me on an antidepressant. So....amoxapine?!?! Has anyone here taken it? Could I take it and...just amoxapine? That'd be -amazing-. These are probably questions to ask a psychiatrist, but...mine keep changing. 1's contract ended, 2nd one's out to private practice, 3rd one's done his time "filling in until you get a permanent assignment," etc., so... yeah. a psychiatrist did recommend it once, but -with- full dose abilify, and I couldn't hang. the thought of 2 full dose tranquilizers, at the same time...nope. nothing doing. so...anyone? or loxapine. but loxapine isn't good for depression, right? right. I don't actually know, LOL. Thanks. :-) |

Loxapine is good for depression; it breaks down into amoxapine and may be more of an atypical AP than a neuroleptic. My pdoc prescribed it for a severe mixed episode with a great deal of depression (the mania I could handle, the depression was making me suicidal).
It's also related to clozaril which is good stuff and lacks the serious side effects. Another benefit is that it has a huge effective range so lots of chances for dose adjustments to work. Loxapine : definition of Loxapine and synonyms of Loxapine (English) I took it for a while and just as the dose was getting high enough it was helping I developed EPS. However I am extremely sensitive and develop EPS easily. I had to go off it before it reached a full effect. I really liked it until that happened as it had very few other side effects and just felt good. It isn't always the easiest drug to get prescribed I've heard because it isn't used much and some pdocs are uncomfortable with it. But if yours will write for it I think it is worthwhile to try.
