My pdoc has mentioned she may use Mirapex with me for BP depression.

She'd said one of her former patients had gone to great lengths to see some BP specialists at different universities and was put on Mirapex, with a very successful outcome.

Mirapex is typically used for Parkinson's and for Restless Legs Syndrome.

Has anyone here tried Mirapex for BP depression?

Thanks so much!

I don't have bipolar and haven't tried Mirapex, but if your doctor is recommending it I think you should try it. I try not to listen to other people's experiences, because sometimes they have horrible side effects that I don't get. I've been scared away from medication before.

Yes, this is very true. I didn't ask about side-effects though.

I also have some time before I must decide.

I am very interested in: if other people are taking it and if other pdocs are recommending it for BP depression.

Thanks for reminding us all that we may have very individualized reactions to any/all meds! You make an important point!

I have been on it for a month or so now. I am up to 2mg a day. It has allowed me to lower my Seroquel to 150mg. My mood has gotten better and I have seen improvement in my motivation. It is still early so I am only being cautiously optimistic right now. I have had some nausea but that is about it.

Thank you for responding!
I am happy for you!

My pdoc has mentioned nausea. I hear some people (not everyone) will vomit with the first dose; these people generally do not continue on the Mirapex.

My pdoc and I have long-term goals for meds. It will take a few more adjustments before we try Mirapex.

Thanks again! I hope Mirapex works out for you in the long run!

I'm very interested in this as I have a raging case of restless leg syndrome from the Seroquel.

I'm definitely going to ask about this at my next appointment.

We are watching closely to make sure I am not getting hypomanic and that it is just increased motivation. Mainly because this week I have started cleaning the house and took a lot to Goodwill. I am tired of living in filth.

I read in a fibrobook years ago that there is a link to Mirapex and a big decrease in pain .... all doctors I talked to looked like I had 3 heads.

But it makes “ sense” to me. Now to find a doctor worth giving it a whirl.

I had tried Mirapex once before, very many years ago. I cannot recall my reaction to it; yet, the neurologist was using it for neuromuscular and nerve pain. So it must often help with pain of those types?

It's worth a trial. I hope your doc will assist you in trying Mirapex.
