Hey folks, have any of you had extreme nausea/vomiting with taking Geodon? If so, at what doses?

I recently went from 120 mgs at night to 160 mgs at night and I've started vomiting and my primary thinks it's a side effect.

So take less, or take it twice a day? Any opinions?

I take 240 mgs at night to sleep and I’ve never had this. I’m sorry you are experiencing this. This is something I would run by my pdoc or primary if that is who prescribed it. Good luck getting that straightened out.

The only time I experienced nausea because of Geodon was as part of Geodon withdrawal. I never had that side effect from taking Geodon. I took 160 mg for about 7 years, mostly split 80 mg morning plus 80 mg evening. I did at one point take all 160 mg at night (early on in response to sleepiness), but that was less effective than splitting the dose morning/evening.

Other than some sleepiness in the very beginning (that ceased), I had zero side effects from Geodon until about 5.5 years in when I developed akathisia from it. I was finally taken off of it for that reason (after suffering for a while), plus it wasn't effective enough anymore at curbing my mania or helping with sleep. I had been taking Seroquel XR along with it, plus moodstabilizers. I've heard it's plenty helpful for many, though.

Geodon withdrawal can be rough, if you've taken it at high doses for years.

wow jenn, I have never heard of anyone taking that amount before. I thought the max dose was 80mg twice a day.
How long have you been taking this dose?
I take also .5mg of klonipin and melatonin 3mg and 5mg of zyprexa and I am sleeping well. I feel like I can loss weight while taking the low dose of zyprexa.

It does seem high doesn’t it? I’ve been taking it for years now and can’t sleep without it. I think I’ll ask to add a low dose of zyprexa as I’m headed into SAD and zyprexa worked wonders for me. I just couldn’t handle the weight gain but you seem to be doing very well with weight loss.

Hi jenn,
The weight loss is only this week because I am not drinking fattening beers. So I will remain alcohol free for this month to see how weight loss goes. may continue on until christmas vacation, mid december.
5mg of zyprexa really is what it took for me to sleep well plus the melatonin, prolonged release 3mg.
