Hello
I’ve been on seroquel for over a year now and my depression and major irritability has come back. My doctor has decided to add Prozac. Im wondering what other people’s experience is on it. Either for their bipolar depression or irritability.
Or maybe I just don’t want to feel so alone in my battle with bipolar.
Any kind of response would be helpful.
Thanks.

Welcome to PC.

I can't say much about Prozac; I was only on it before I was on mood stabilizers and it was horrible for me. It might have been different with a mood stabilizer of some sort.

I hope it works for you. This is a hard time of year for depression for a lot of people.

Welcome

I haven't tried prozac so I cant comment on that but I definitely get lonely sometimes. Its hard to not have many people to talk to and then to have them not understand any of this as well is even worse.

This is a great place to come for some company and understanding. Plus great advice and answers.

I tried Prozac, and it didn't help me, but everyone is different. Wellbutrin seems to help me more.

I get lonely all the time. My only good friend lives in the U.S. Northeast now. My other 2 friends are my sisters, but one lives a 4-6 hour drive away. I don't see my other sister as often as I'd like. She has 3 girls, and she is very busy raising my nieces.

H works, and while he tries to understand bipolar & panic disorder, he doesn't really get it. Especially the depression. He thinks if I just do something productive, like clean, the depression will magically go away, and I will feel better. It may work that way for him, but it does not for me.

And my daughter can be sweet but volatile. Plus, she is only 10 (a month away from 11). It's not like I can easily discuss tough psych or even tough life situations with her.

I have a T now. I guess for the time being, that has to do.

Hello and a warm welcome to PC.

I was on Prozac for a while and had moderate success with it. I hope you do well on it. You’re not alone in your Bipolar battle. You have us.

I irresponsibly took it without my mood stabilizer in order to induce mania. It worked but instead of euphoric mania I became a mixed psychotic mess. But since you are on seroquel as well that probably won’t happen for you. It’s a good med. lots of people have success on it.

Welcome to PC!

Prozac was my first line of defense when I was diagnosed with Generalized Anxiety Disorder; it worked great for about a month up until the panic attacks started; granted the panic were probably work related. He upped my dose to 40 which just made me more depressed than ever. Granted this was before any sort of Antipsychotic. I haven't gone back to any sort of depression medication, Seroquel keeps that at bay. I wish you luck with the Prozac.

Prozac made me very angry and more restless and confrontstional than usual. I stopped taking it after a week, but that was without a mood stabilizer.

((((Fairy102)))) I'm sorry you're feeling so bad. Hopefully writing here will make you feel a little less lonely. As for the medication, remember that everyone is different and Prozac might have a different effect on you. You can always change it later if it doesn't work.
