How can you know if your having a side effect of your meds or physical issues like the flu or such …

case in point a while back I got sicker and sicker as the day went on till I could not stand it anymore …

(I had just changed a med doseage … ) .. after a doc in the box visit I had the flu … ( with no fever I

might add ) …

I can kind of see why the er or a med doc sometimes just blows us off as having a side effect … I could

not tell myself which it was …

I am afraid that someday I will blow it off as a side effect and have a heart attack or such … just today I

left work because my tummy was just so sick and it felt like a 100 pounds was sitting on my chest and

very weak … now home and wrapped in a blanket I feel so much better … real or side effect … I may

never know …

just a thought … Tigger ..

persistent symptoms are a big red flag. Try changing up your routine and see if they continue. If so, report that to your doctor and ask what he might recommend be done differently(taking new meds later in the day, before or after meals, lower does in morning, higher does at night, etc.) But if you're experiencing extreme discomfort, discontinue and consult your doctor. Heal yourself from your cold or flu and then request to try again. I hope those suggestions help

Hi Tigger. I agree that sometimes it's hard to know. I'm of the opinion that we shouldn't always blame everything on medication, but it can be the medications.

Question: You wrote that you recently had a medication dose change. 1) Has that change started to achieve what it was meant to achieve? 2) Was the increase or reduction a rather big one?

Regarding the above, if the change in your dose has achieved nothing, do let your psychiatrist know that and the flu-like symptoms you're experiencing. If it is helping, consider asking if maybe the adjustment was too much too fast. Could adjusting it (up or down) more slowly prevent discomfort? Some psychiatrists make the mistake of too big of changes. There are sometimes withdrawal effects from big reductions and adjustments to big increases. I don't know what medication you are even talking about. I can tell you that I've had flu-like symptoms from too quick reductions of meds like benzos and certain antipsychotics.

it was the real flu ... they did the test ... this time it was easy as there was a black and white answer ... but many physical alliments have no test ... when do you go to er ... when do you wait for it too pass ... the doseage was an increase , 2x , forget the med ... too many , too long ago ... like today ... really felt crappy ... nothing I did made it any better ... finally as last resort took xanex ... worked ... so today mental not physical issue ... I guess ... as I have had xanex calm a grippy tummy before that was not mental ... getting old and very over weight ... just afraid one day will say just my head ... and die from a heart attack ... maybe not a bad thing after all ... remember boys and girls never do as Tigger does ... he is all most always wrong ...... Tigger ..
