Hi all, I was a member of the this forum back when I was formally diagnosed after a manic episode about four years ago. I deleted my account because I got in a paranoid mixed state but that’s neither here nor there. Anyway, these forums have been very helpful. I wanted to know how many of you out there have also been diagnosed with ADHD and take a stimulant. I recently started Adderall and am surprised at how much it has quieted the chatter and chaos in my head. It’s like I used to have four conversations going on and now I only have one or two. But I’m concerned about the potential for causing mania. I’d love to hear from you folks. Thanks for reading.

I was on Ritalin for ADHD and it worked great, just like you described. The. It sent me into a mixed manic episode and I was diagnosed with BP. After mood stabilizers I tried going back on it but I got mild hypomania followed by a crash of depression after the medication wore off so no more for me. I know many on this forum who are on mood stabilizers can take stimulants for ADHD and do fine but I’m not one of them.

Quote:
I got a new pdoc (old one retiring), and he diagnosed me with ADHD, I don't know, after taking all these psych meds, I probably am plus he sees about 40% schoolkids. He prescribed me Adderall too. I still have the chaos in my head, but it does seem more organized and I can retain thoughts longer. For reading a book or watching a TV show, the Adderall is a lifesaver. It gave me a sex drive again, but not to the point on hypersexulity. I have the Adderall balanced out a lot by the Seroquel, but I have only been on this mix a few months.
