It's as if everything I'm feeling is dampened by something, as if my emotions are numb. I don't feel or experience things as fully as I'd like.

Does this sound familiar? I'm wondering if it's due to a med side effect or if I'm just depressed. It's been going on for a looonnnggg time.

Sounds like when I was on Clozaril. Have you noticed this feeling start after starting new meds? I know you said it's been going on for a while. Maybe your pdoc can help you figure out what's causing it.

I had periods like that, too. In my cases, I think it was either or a combination of the two. I know depression can cause that numb feeling. That is even a known possible symptom. But medication sedation and/or cognitive impairment doesn't help.

I felt perfectly clear headed at times on meds I later blamed for numb feelings and obviously numb on them. That convinced me that meds weren't 100% to blame.

I do think that some meds' antimanic features can over do it. I know sometimes lowering doses does good, but some people go too far and go off such meds completely without trying others.

I'm so sorry, imaginethat Yes, it may very well be a side effect of depression. I'm sure many can relate to what you wrote. If you're worried it may be a side effect of your meds, the only way to know for sure is to talk to your Pdoc about this and see how it goes from there. Perhaps you just need to change meds. Or maybe it's rooted in something deeper. Do you see a therapist? Maybe that could help. Please don't give up. Hopefully you'll feel better at some point. It doesn't have to stay like this forever. Sending many hugs to you

I could be convinced either way on that one. I personally think it's depression, but that's not saying a med side effect couldn't be a factor. To that effect, I'm going to echo the people on this thread and advise talking with your doctor on the matter. They will be best situated to not only tell you what the problem is, but hopefully come up with a solution.

Hi imaginethat,

I am sorry you are experiencing this.

I agree with other friends here, it could be either or both depression and/or meds. Some meds really knock me for a loop.

We are all different in our responses to meds and in the severity of our depression, so I hope you can sort this out with your pdoc.

Feel better soon.

I would talk to your doctor but for me this is classic signs of depression.

I had that feeling when I was on zyprexa. I slept 13-15 hours a day and felt like a zombie going to work eating and sleeping. It could be your meds.
