I have now doubled the prescribed amount of xanex and still don’t feel like I’ll be sleeping. I paged the on call doc at exactly 1:15. I still have not received a return call (I’ve called them 3 or 4 times in the past and they’ve always called back within a 1/2 hour or so). I have no idea what happened but I feel I’m in a predicament. Am I making too big a deal of this? Should I just let myself stay awake? Take more unauthorized xanex (or take klonapin which I just stopped last week) or try to page them again? If I try to page them again, how long should I wait?

I'd page them again and give it about 30-45 minutes. Other than that I really don't know what to tell you. I wouldn't take more Xanax though. What would happen if you just let yourself stay up? I know sometimes I just can't force myself to sleep and have to stay up about a day then I crash.

Hope you're doing ok. Sorry you are having such a tough night. At least you have some meds to take in such situations. Hugs.

Thank you! I repaged the on call dr about 5 mins ago so we’ll see. Typically one night of missed sleep wouldnt be a big deal but since I also didn’t have any last night and my sleep lately has in general been crazy, I am afraid it actually may cause harm.

He finally called me back. At 5:30. At that point, I had already slept from about 3:30-5. Since it was so early, he told me just to talk to my pdoc today.

Did you talk to your pdoc yet? How did it go?

I don't think doubling a dose of anything is a good idea, especially a benzo like Xanax or klonopin.

You might try asking your doctor about Trazodone. It's an older anti-depressant that is usually used for sleep now. It works well for me.

Also, you can ask about Benadryl. My pdoc said I could take that and you can get it over the counter.

I never thought about Benadryl! I may ask about that. Normally I would agree about doubling the benzo but since I could take up to 6 mg of klonapin and am only prescribed 1 mg of xanex, I thought it would be fine. And I think I was right as it never even touched my sleep.

I haven’t talked to my pdoc yet. I imagine she will call me back mid to late afternoon. I don’t know about the Trazadone because I have had many symptoms of mania. That said, I have never taken it.

I hope you'll be able to talk to your Pdoc soon, cashart10! Sleep is very important and it can have great effects on our mental health. I hope you'll be able to find the right meds combination. Please don't give up. I hope you'll feel better soon. Wish you good luck! Let us know how it goes. Sending many hugs to you

Yeah, my pdoc said that Trazodone and Benadryl are much safer than benzos or Ambien. Just something you can ask about.

I just got off the phine with my pdoc. She told me to add more seroquel (800 MG) and switch back to klonapin then see how it goes. She said if I still am not sleeping she will add a sleeping aid. I honestly completely forgot to ask about Benadryl! I will ask when I follow up with her.

Saw my t. She called my husband and told him I’m not to go to work at least tomorrow and Friday. I lucked out because school was cancelled for Thurs due to weather conditions and my teacher will be back Friday. Makes me feel SO much better!!! I was feeling really bad about not going but she said it was no different than me going to work impaired. She said it’s not safe for the kids or for me. Hoping the med changes make me sleep tonight.
