HELP!! How to save $$ on Latuda???

Hello! I've been put back on Latuda after about 2 years being on Abilify. The reason I got off Latuda in the first place was having insurance that would not cover it when my husband was unemployed. NOW, we're on government insurance (hubby works for the government) and it only covers HALF of the $1,200 that Latuda costs per month. I can't use the Latuda savings card because we have government insurance.

I just printed out the Psych Central Rx savings card to try instead of insurance to see if it helps get the monthly cost down to something affordable. *fingers crossed!!*

Anyone have a similar situation and find a savings card that will actually help get Latuda down to an affordable cost? I really think this medication works better for me than any other antipsychotic for bipolar depression, and I really hope I can make this work out. Otherwise, I'll have to go back on Abilify and I'm not crazy about that idea.

Latuda is now being made as a generic as far as I know it is only being made by one manufacture (Lupin Pharmaceuticals). I couldn't find any information about when that generic might be available so for now it's still considered brand. The cost should come down once the generic is on the market. Lupin got FDA generic approval in late January so I would assume it will be coming soon.

Is there a way that you could talk to the prescribing doctor and see if they could talk to your insurance so they would cover it; or you could say to the company you don't have insurance and should be able to get the copay card that way.

GoodRx is another great option that will tell you the price at pharmacies and sometimes you might be able to get it cheaper someplace else.

My insurance is covering some, just only paying half of the cost. I doubt my psychiatrist could get the insurance to change how much they cover. I’ll check out GoodRx. Thanks for all the info!!

You can try patient assistance through the drug company. There are income limits and it will say if you have insurance you don't qualify but I ask for exemptions when Medicare doesn't cover well enough for me to possibly pay and get several meds that way.

My wife currently have healthfirst insurance here in NY which is state funded.

We had cigna in the past and with the savings card we were paying 15 dollars copays. In November she changed to healthfirst and the savings card stopped working.

Her pharmacist gave her a form(from insurance) to take to her psychiatrist for pre authorization.

Once the psychiatrist gave the green light the insurance (healthfirst) covers
the drug 100%.

Download an app called GoodRx and that app will show you where you can get it for cheaper prices and it’ll give you the discount code to show to the pharmacy tech.
