Do you have empathy for others? All are welcome...... I think empathy is a skill that can be learned.... for some. Others are more naturally kind and thoughtful. I'm writing this since I'm thinking of taking a long break from being with humans. Unfortunately for me I probably will not implement this break.

And yeah... as I said in my other post, I miss D who was always kind and thoughtful to all... is it really so hard to give a damn about others?

Yes, I do have empathy for others. But I've had to learn to have boundaries, too. Boundaries are difficult, but have become necessary in my life.

I am glad you're back, Fuzzy. I knew you were taking a break, though.

Yes, I have empathy for others. But I'm also an introvert, so it takes a lot out of me to spend time with others. Boundaries. All about the boundaries here too. My dad, who also has bipolar, absolutely doesn't have empathy, or if he does, it's extremely limited. I actually watched him imitating the behavior of other people at a funeral; he was very obviously at a loss as to what to do. He behaves in such a way that he doesn't seem to be aware that other people exist. Super selfish. I agree that empathy can be learned. Hope all is well with you.

To me, it's easier to have empathy for others if you've been through a lot of BS yourself. Then you learn how hard life can be for people. Of course, Jeffrey Dahmer might have had a screwed up life but he was a sociopath incapable of empathy.

Great question.

Yes, but I often pray for more empathy and discernment. I have been in situations where I have had empathy for the wrong people. When there are accusations about others--it can be hard to sort it all out. Sometimes people make accusations because they have been harmed but, unfortunately, there are also people who make accusations to stir up trouble. This is why I have learned to listen more and say less when others want me to act based on an accusation. Sometimes I am unable to discern the truth so I am learning to stay neutral until I see/hear concrete evidence for myself. I know that there are people in this world in powerless situations so I pray that my family and others will be protected from the evil and that anyone who harms others will be exposed and neutralized.

i sometimes think that i don't have as much empathy as i should have. i think it is something that one can learn with time although perhaps some may be more predisposed to it. Sending many Safe, warm hugs to ALL of you, @Fuzzybear, your Families, your Friends and ALL of your Loved Ones! Keep fighting and keep rocking NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENS, OK?!

From my perspective--I have appreciated and am grateful for all the empathy you sent out to me during the times I was struggling the most! Thanks.

I am in the same boat as Beth. I have much empathy and had to learn boundaries. I'm still learning.

I used to have a lot of empathy. Sometimes too much. Now I don’t have much at all.
