The air conditioning units and the fans are all going strong!!!

While I am very lucky to have all of them to keep the house cool, I am hearing all kinds of MUSIC!!!

I cannot make out the lyrics; however, the bands are jamming away!!!

This often overwhelms me. It gets so very loud. I try to block it out; yet, cannot.

The only thing I find works some is to play music of my choice ,rather loudly and/or on earbuds/head phones, in order to drown out the other "music" I hear.

White noise would not drown this out, ever.

If I want/need to have my environment "quiet," I am out of luck.

Does anyone else experience this or something similar?

Is it your neighbors making the music or
auditory/hallucinations that you are referring to?
I don't experience either.
sorry that it interferes with your life!

Hey Bizi!
So glad you've left a comment.
It is nice to have you around!

I think the question might be: Is this a auditory hallucination, or is it some kind of phenomenon?

I have had people tell me both. My last pdoc had told me he also hears music when there are fans/AC units blowing. In his eyes (in his ears, really), this is a phenomenon other than auditory hallucinations.

Love ya, Bizi!

I hear music when fans are going- for example, the bathroom fan. It goes away when I turn the fan off.

I do hear music without any fans etc though- once I heard an entire marching band outside at night while IP. I told a guy at the front desk and he basically said "Yeah yeah" while "patting my head" - "...That's nice, now go back to your room, Crazy..."

Hi Wild Coyote. I had a period of about one year when I had musical hallucinations. I heard music regardless of whether fans or AC were on, though I will admit they sometimes intensified with them on, or any electronic devise (i.e. the microwave). I had them more often when I was home than outside the house, but then again I was almost always home, unless I was at my therapist's or psychiatrist's office. When they first started, they were only a couple times per day, and not every day. At that time, I only heard original music, mostly classical music, then it became other types, like jazz, choral, and even Indian pow wow music. Later down the line, the frequency increased to several times per day, every day. It switched into what I called DJ voices on the radio, but not clear voices. More muffled. Sometimes it was one voice, and other times it was like a conversation.

I was quite disturbed by the musical hallucinations, especially when they continued beyond the first week. I remember telling my therapist about them and he made an obnoxious comment. At that time, it was the original music. He said "Wow! You should start writing the music down. You could make money from them." Not helpful! Luckily, my psychiatrist took my musical hallucinations much more seriously. [Long story. I'll spare you the rest. Anyone interested can read more about my experience at A Story of Musical Hallucinations (When music mostly died for me) – Bird Flight. So you know, my Tegretol XR (carbamazepine ER) seemed to be the "cure" for them.]

Thanks so much, Moose and BirdDancer!!!

Yes, I also often hear the radio DJ(s). I hear this -- music and Dj(s) or "talk radio"-- when there is noise like fans, AC, etc.

I have had this going on in the past. it has resolved on it's own so far. I hope this is the case now, as well! I am already on too much Seroquel!

BirdDancer, I do appreciate your putting your blog links here where they are readily accessible!!! I will read and will comment further if I feel like there is more to discuss/share, etc! i hope you will do the same!

Much Love and Appreciation!!!

Interesting. I hear voices when the fan is on, but I don’t know if that is normal because I hear voices when the fan is off too. I have heard music from fans before, though. I wonder what the scientific reason is

As long as it doesn’t bother you and nothing is commanding you to do something, then I think you’re all good.

Thanks, Wild Coyote!

You know, I don't want anyone to take this as a scary statement, or one that influences any attitudes, but sometimes antipsychotics (like Seroquel) aren't the best meds for all types of hallucinations. For example, Tegretol XR, an anticonvulsant, helped rid me of the musical hallucinations I had. Not an antipsychotic. For me, antipsychotics are extremely helpful for controlling my bipolar manic and depressive episodes, but it is possible that my past musical hallucinations were not bipolar-related.

This is fascinating. I wonder the prevalence of conditions like Temporal Lobe Epilepsy and/or of migraine/migraine equivalents in people living with BP?

I have read that there is a high correlation with BP and migraine. I am wondering about TLE?

It's interesting because these symptoms are also found in these two other conditions... and both migraines and TLE tend to respond well to Tegretol.

I am going to go out on a limb here and theorize that each/all of these "conditions" could easily be active/stirred up at the same time.

My Disclaimer: I am not sure of what to think, honestly. It seems to make sense that these 3 conditions, and symptoms thereof, might co-exist and might respond best to Tegretol?

Someone better versed in the science might do a much better job of theorizing and/or in stating things more logically. I am not at my best tonight.

Love to All!

Hi again, Bizi!

Well, one could argue that Lamictal is an anticonvulsant, couldn't they?
I do take Lamictal.

Love ya, Bizi!

I've had both. Hearing things/music with fans and the like and without any machinery. When I asked one of my former psychs about it, she said it is very common and not anything to worry about. In fact, when I described what I was hearing, her first question was, "was there a fan on?"

I think it is part of the phenomenon that also can happen visually. Our brains want to make sense of things, to make them recognizable. It tries to make sense even of randomness.

Something similar to this happened to me just tonight. Saw a shape at a bit of a distance. My brain first interpreted it as a person. Getting closer, turned out to be a shrub. Lol.

Generally my head stays “ loud”

I just hate when all I’m hearing is opera music , ugh just freaking stop that shyt !

My T assured me that this is very typical of a Bipolar brain lol

I can say that I have experienced clear cut bipolar symptoms since 14 years old, but it was only in my mid 30s and early 40s that I ever had migraines, symptoms that led to a simple partial seizures (Temporal Lobe Epilepsy) diagnosis, very significant dissociative symptoms, and musical hallucinations. This "bombardment of neurological issues", as I call it, followed a four year period of my very worst bipolar episodes. But with time and proper treatment, all eased. I have not experienced any of the neuro issues for years now, but I do still have the occasional bipolar hypomanic/manic, mixed, or depressive episodes. Luckily, they are less frequent and easy to squash than before, on my current medications.

I think Tegretol XR is a bit of a hero med for me, but it is mostly a hero at curbing that neuro chaos I wrote about. Lamictal is great for my bipolar depression, but nothing else is good at curbing my manias except the antipsychotics. Seroquel XR really helps with all psych issues I have.

I hear you!
No pun intended!

Most noises are very loud to me. Many are overwhelming. This "noise" that comes with fans/other are often overwhelming to me.
