In no particular order:
I thought Iceland was one of the most beautiful countries I’ve ever been to.
I went in their summer which was colder than our winter and me and DH were there for a week.
The ground is volcanic and the whole landscape looks like green moonscape with occasional snow and shards of ice thrown in.
Puffins are soooo cute.
My favourite part was staying in a home in the middle of nowhere. The hostess cooked great food.
Swimming in the geothermal pools was great fun.
It’s a very ‘green’ country - lots of recycling, geothermal energy, all food local, clothing made up of recycled material etc.
They love their sour and bitter flavours which leads me to my #1 lesson from Iceland:
If you have bipolar and are on meds do NOT indulge in their grapefruit juice. It is a bad idea. I fell in love with it, drank it daily and by the time our 2nd week of holidays began in Denmark I was already experiencing both lithium and Seroquel toxicity.
I’d love to visit again and just avoid the grapefruit.

Ohh yes. There is a well-known interaction with grapefruit juice and medication. The grapefruit juice affects the way medications are metabolized in the body, and so the medications essentially become "toxins" because they are not fully metabolized and sit in the liver, which is only meant to break things down and excrete them.

Sorry you had to experience this interaction. I wish your doctors would have warned you about grapefruit juice.

Thanks for sharing your experience, Iceland is one of the places I'd love to visit. A green moonscape, that really is a great description to invision.

I knew about the interaction but was too manic to do the right thing. If my hubby had known about the interaction he would’ve been on guard duty

Your description is exactly what a friend of mine said when she went a few years ago. I would love to see it one day

Ahh yes the Grapefruit juice, my husband bought some in the past( he loves it) and I Cautioned him strongly about it with a few of his meds, I said if you MUST. have a small glass mid day as he only takes meds twice a day. But he became so ill he was in the hospital with a huge infection, so I poured it down the drain just so he wouldn’t drink any with his antibiotics.

I hope you quickly recover from the toxicity of it all.

Wow! Sounds very interesting and like a very good time!
Thanks so much for sharing!

I am sorry about the interaction. My pharmacy has a sign up on the wall with the grapefruit warning. I am guessing many people disregard it until they have a reaction.

It's great to have you back!!!

A beautiful and expensive place to visit. I remember visiting an aquarium which had the most unusual fish. Restaurants have puffin on the menu. Gorgeous sweaters for sale. Beautiful shaggy little horses.

I love puffins, too!!! I've never been to Iceland, but saw some Atlantic puffins in the waters near Nova Scotia, Canada.

Thank you for providing such a lovely description of your time in Iceland. I've seen lots of beautiful photos of places in Iceland. My sister-in-law and nephew went there last year for a vacation.

I'm sorry you ended the time with Lithium/Seroquel toxicity. I did find a wonderful seltzer recently with Ruby Red Grapefruit flavor. It's Polar brand. It's just flavored, but contains no juice.
