Greetings everyone.
I have been seeing doctors for several years, receiving the bipolar diagnosis after my mood kept spiking while taking antidepressants for anxiety. Then a couple of years later, I was admitted to a hospital by my first doctor because of a manic episode. I have been struggling as of late, and after describing my day-to-day feelings in detail to my doctor (I keep a journal), she has said that my bipolar disorder has an ultradian cycle. She explained what that means and it does make a fair bit of sense. It has definitely been that way as of late, but I am not sure whether it is always that way. It did tend to be a quick change in my mood between days, and sometimes after a single week, cycling up and down.

Hi TicTacGo. I'm sorry to read that your mood has been so unstable lately. Though I am not a usual ultradian cycler, I have experienced that for a period in the past. That's great that you have been journaling so carefully so you can present your doctor with details on what's happening.
You may be interested in an article I once read about ultradian cycling. It's written by a well-known psychiatrist Dr. Jim Phelps. Though he does specialize in bipolar type 2 and "softer" bipolar types, and his website is mostly focused on that, the following article may be of interest to anyone who has cycles rapidly. If of interest, it's at https://psycheducation.org/diagnosis...ates-as-waves/. It begins with mixed episode details, but further down the page it discusses rapid and ultradian cycling. |

Thank you @BirdDancer and @MickeyCheeky for the sweet messages! It is amazing to have this online community. You guys rock!
That is a very interesting article. One good thing that comes from having to deal with a disorder is how much I learn from reading articles and asking many questions when I see my doctor. I always like it when my doctor explains these concepts- I’m curious by nature, so thanks for that!

When I was first diagnosed almost 5 yrs ago I had both rapid and ultradian cycling.
I have noticed that this year my cycles are finally getting longer. I’ve been IP x3 only this year and one of those admissions was a medical emergency. It’s taken a lot of medication changes, and a strict bedtime and daytime routine to get to this point.
