I wondered if I should post, since there seemed to be a risk of being referred to as stupid! I do not have any knowledge of the program you are upset about. But I can understand your frustration. It seems that someone partially created a program, got credit for their sloppy work and now you have to deal with it.
Seriously, isnt that Life! Sad isnt it. Like I said before I do not understand inventing or developing software. But I do know if you work on it and make the problem program accessible, wont you be the Hero!? Good Luck :

I would never call you stupid and no one else should either. Software Development is a technical discipline that essentially requires study and training (job experience). For instance, I wouldn't expect a pilot to call me stupid just because I don't know anything about flying. In fact, the more I learn, the more I realize there is so much that I don't know. This comes out in me when I'm hypomanic. I start buying books and stuff on all kinds of different subjects, because I NEED TO LEARN IT ALL. It seems like I need to follow my own advice and understand that I'm not expected to know everything. Why is it so hard to follow one's own advice? Anyway, your understanding of the situation is exactly spot on. I terminated the contract. I couldn't take the extra stress anymore. I recommended they get the guys who worked on it originally. I know they would be up for doing it.
