My T suggested a while back that I get a weighted blanket. 48 hours ago, I sent a picture of one to my bff asking her to buy it for Christmas. She didn't respond to my text. Today, I arrived home to an Amazon box on my front porch. My blanket was inside. I love my support system!

I hope you like it as much as I LOVE mine. My favorite part of the day is getting under my weighted blanket.

What an invaluable friend! That makes my heart happy! I’m glad you have a friend that wants and is able to support you like that.

All y'all that have weighted blankets, I have a question. Are they very warm? I like the idea but they sound stifling.

That is absolutely amazing! What a great friend and good job reaching out.

In regards to them being warm, mine is not. I usually use a blanket on top of it. The weight provides a sense of security without, for me, feeling suffocating.

I don't have one but I wanted to mention that there are "cooling weighted blankets" available some people have a regular one for cold weather then a cooling type one for the hotter temps

Mine is 20 pounds. Its very heavy but not as warm as I thought. I still use a comforter in this weather. I've found that it covers me from my feet to my armpits (I'm 5'2") but throughout the night, it creeps down the foot of the bed and over the side.

Are the charts I'm reading right that you select the weight of the blanket depending on your own weight?

Yes, it should be 10% of your weight up to about 20-25 lbs. 25 lbs is probably too much for most people and would generally make life difficult making the bed and keeping covers on because it is so heavy. Mine is 22 lbs which is more than my weight would indicate but I had another before this and knew I really needed a lot of input; this is perfect for me.

Thanks. 15 lbs was the recommended amount for my body weight which would be a bit more than 10%. I was thinking of getting one to use as a throw blanket on the couch.

This one doesn't seem like it is going to be very warm, but that will be nice during the summer months.

What a wonderful friend

I have often thought of getting one as when it’s cold enough I do love being wrapped up in lots of soft blankets but even with the ones saying they are “ cooler “ I still think it would be way to hot for me. 3/4 of the year I can’t keep covered in a thin sheet, I kick that off most of the time.

I had mine locally and custom made. Many are made with pellets. Mine is made with little disks. It was expensive, but I treated myself. I picked size, weight and material. I sleep with it every night (I have taken it camping) and I use it when my anxiety is bad. It feels like being hugged but less peoply. 🥰

Any suggests on good weighted blankets? The one I brought was for some reason shaped like a sleeping bag and didn't work for me.

All 3 of mine are handmade from places I found online. Unfortunately neither of those places are still in business 10 and 15 years after I bought my blankets. If you can find someone, maybe on etsy, that's a nice thing because you can choose the fabric (mine is extremely soft and heavy which both is good because it holds 22 lbs and because it helps with my sensory issues; I like a huge pile of blankets even with the warm weighted one). Just be sure you are getting filled with polypellets as occasionally someone wants to make one with beans and beans rot eventually. This is definitely a cost you want to last a long time. My main one I've now had 14 years. For $250 I've gotten my use out of it although I hope it lasts another 15 years.

Great friend! I sleep under two 15 lb blankets. During the night. I may shed one. I purchased mine on Amazon.

PS Sometimes my large dog throws herself on me to sleep, so then I am under allot of weight.

Put a trigger warning on this thing. I can't tell if it's asthma or claustrophobia.

I don't understand; why does this need a trigger warning? Weighted blankets seem pretty safe to me. Am I missing something?

I'm being somewhat sarcastic. But overstimulated types don't respond well at all to stimulus therapy. The first time someone put a weighted blanket on me (with my consent) I felt immediately claustrophobic and wanted to throw it at the therapist and storm out. I managed to maintain composure, but wow did I learn about my level of stimulation that day.
