Thank you for this. I take 200mg of Lamictal, but my pharmacy was out of the 200mg tablets. They gave me 100mg tablets this month (I just got them filled last week). I'll have to talk with them.

This is odd. My pharmacy couldn't locate 200mg tabs anywhere and asked me if taking 2 x 100mg was OK. I thought it was. Ugh. I've had nothing but trouble with my meds this month. Insurance formulary change means they won't cover the number of Xanax tablets I get. Lithium increase, insurance won't cover the new amount until next month. I guess I'll just be anxious and manic for a month. I wander if they do this for people with other illnesses.

Thanks for sharing this, Moose! I take 100 mg tablets of lamotrigine. I checked my bottle, and luckily mine is made by a different manufacturer with a different lot number and expiration date. I guess I'm fine. If they weren't/aren't, I'd hope my mail order pharmacy would contact me and not expect me to contact them. Ditto if I had had them filled by a brick and mortar pharmacy.

It's definitely disconcerting that a pharmaceutical manufacturer would make such a major league dangerous boo boo!

Thank you for sharing this. I take 100mg of lamotrigine. I do not know how to tell if my medication is safe or not though. Do I talk to my pdoc? Or do I talk to the pharmacy?

Thanks! I lurk a lot, and usually only end up posting when I'm feeling crappy. Which I have been.

I stopped at the Pharmacy to pick up my Lithium and asked my pharmacist. It looks like my lamictal is from a different manufacturer.

Thanks again for the heads-up Moose.

My advice is to call your pharmacy first. I sort of doubt that your psychiatrist would have a clue about the manufacturer of the pills you take. That varies from pharmacy to pharmacy and even sometimes time of year/availability. It's my assumption psychiatrists just record the medication, dose, dosing, and number of refills, and when they submitted the original prescription.

I found the manufacturer name on my main pill bottle. I think the other info should be on the pill bottle, too.

Thanks Moose! I take Lamotirigine, too.

Moose's link (Epilepsy, bipolar drug recalled after contamination found | Miami Herald) indicates the affected lot is of generic 100 mg Lamotrigine tablets manufactured by Taro Pharmaceutical Industries out of Haifa Bay, Israel and distributed by Taro Pharmaceuticals USA, which made the recall. ... This concerns lot No. 331771, expiration date June 2021, sold in 100-count bottles. "

Whew! I'm glad my pills aren't affected by this. I take 200 mg in the AM, then 1 1/2 200 mg (=300mg) tabs at night. Of course, there will probably be other doses that may be affected; one of my blood pressure meds wasn't on the list of those that may contribute to certain cancers, but a few months later it was listed. But to me it's worth the risk, as not taking it would likely result in uncontrolled blood pressure and stroke or heart attack. Just as I wouldn't give up taking lamotrigine. It's too important in keeping me well.

I'll definitely be checking my bottle! I would hope that the pharmacy would notify people though.

I found this link directly to the FDA recall of the lamotragin tablets, but I'm too new to be able to post links.
But if you go to FDA site and get to drug recalls search for the manufacturer Taro and it will come up with the lamotragin recall. If you try searching lamotragin or lamictal on the recall nothing will show up.
