I am doing well off my meds - quit lithium and celexa over a month ago. Primary strategy is focusing on mindfulness with exercise and meditation a close second. Diet isn't an issue since I eat fairly well. Anyway, it isn't for everyone but I'm here to say it can be done for some people. I've had some moments but doing well at work at with other triggers like my job and my mom (ugh). I've come A LONG way back to when I destroyed my garage with a hockey stick or threw my trash cans on my roof. Hey, chill magill, dig it.

Thanks for the update. I'm glad it's going well. Always good to hear that.

My wife was very concerned, as I am a maniac unwilling to take any crap from anyone. But things are chill so far.

What is the plan if/when there is a recurrence?

Wouldn't it be swell if there was a subforum for these types of posts? A special place for people who wish to discuss and share helpful information and experiences about life off of bipolar medications and the struggles of going off and staying off of them? I've seen such subforums on other mental health online forums. I even recall one member here suggesting such a thing in the past.

I know some members would benefit from such a mentioned subforum, and for others it may put what are occasionally triggering (or bad influence) posts away from the main forum. Anyone like that idea? I suggest this for the good of all.

I think that is a great idea BirdDancer. I am not sure if I was BP or Schizo but I got off meds a long time ago. I am hesitant about stating the process though because some of the information could very well trigger some.

Yeah, I can see how these threads can be triggering or a bad influence for some people.

I suggest we have a subforum for changing treatments, which would include going off them. In other words, if you are tapering off a med to switch onto another one, you can discuss withdrawal, etc.. But of course, you can also post success stories or horror stories of going off meds altogether, because you are "changing" your treatment from being on meds to being off meds, if that makes sense.

I'd call it "Bipolar treatment discontinuation." Then the description would be "A subforum for discussing discontinuing certain meds and sharing discontinuation stories."

Edit: or "Bipolar medication discontinuations"

Row Jimmy, I'm sorry I momentarily changed focus from your original topic, slightly. I hope you stay well and enjoy life as fully as possible.

That's great, man.

Two days off my meds and I get suicidal.

If your wife tells you your just going up too far will you listen and go back on med(s) ?! What coping skills are you using to keep track of how your doing ? How’s your sleep ?

That is a deal I made with my husband...if I’m not able to see that I am just too unstable that I would listen to him and restart a Med.
