Well I think Therapy is different for all people.
No one enters Therapy at a certain age. No ones Therapy is like another Yes some Therapist specialize in things like ptsd, abuse as an adult or as a child. There’s are millions of variables so it just depends on what your going to Therapy for , what goals do you have in mind. For instance you .... I think your female I have no idea of your age Are you a teenager and living with your parents or paternal units as you call them ? You could be married with kids , I don’t know Obviously you have been damaged by people who should protect you whether it be parents or a spouse I think we all take a chance when we met a Therapist , will it be a good fit? will this help or harm me ? So we follow our gut feeling. No Therapist good or bad will expect us to quickly tell all our troubles to them , it takes time to not only feel safe with them and safe enough to share what is almost always painful ?? So everyone needs to determine if possible what we hope to get from going to therapy. Be able to realize our worth, work through past trauma and abuse. How to lean coping skills . Increase our self worth, change habits that are unhealthy, like always expecting the worst , learn how to ask for what we need or want to get from relationships whether it be family, a partner, with friends or work, or recovery from previous therapy. Etc etc etc Somethings horrible from the past don’t need to be worked through, let sleeping dogs alone can be better than to kick one. We have to accept that our T’s will ask tough questions at times. Or maybe we just want someone to just listen to us unload and not respond at all. Like here on PC ? People often say ... I’m just venting no advice wanted. And that’s fine too. So there are all kinds of ways Therapy can help us.
