Today in the car, I was listening to the Adele song, "Hello". It seemed to be playing at a shorter, more moderate tempo that I'm used to. Its a fairly dance-able piece of music, usually, so this was strange. The only other time this has happened to me was after I smoked some marijuana - the speed of the radio changed that time in the car. But I swear to you I have not smoked ANYthing for a year and a third about. both times, it seemed the music was ironed out and smooth and at a walking rather than running tempi. (Plurel of "tempo".) Is this really happening, or is my brain sped up? I've just been listening to music and reading about recording techniques on Wikipedia - oh yeah and talking with Caleb on the phone for a couple hours! We talked about umpteen bajillion topics and my brain was spinning with them! It felt GREAT. Now back to my CD I have on in the background of Peter Schreier when he was a boy alto....

Dear Moose72,
Thank you for sharing that. I have never heard the song you mention, but will listen to it. Thanks again. Sincerely yours, Yao Wen |

Hey, Moose, I experience this as well. Don't know the casue.
That said, I have always believed that my bipolar disorder does sometimes display changes in sensory functions of various types. Most people are familiar with idea that food may be fairly tasteless when one is depressed, say. But I have also experienced weird changes in the quality of my vision occasionally that I felt may be bipolar-related. Not hallucinations, other things. Same with hearing. Hard to describe without getting into a whole, big thing. But, yeah, I believe this is a thing for some of us some of the time. Yet another reason why, in my opinion, it should not be called a mood disorder. It is, unfortunately, way, way more than that.

I agree, @bpcyclist! Bipolar is WAY more than just feeling depressed or manic (or hypomanic). That's one reason I don't like the term "Manic Depression/Depressive". Bipolar at least attempts to encompass the entire spectrum, which in my and your case includes sensory perceptions. On the same vein as my original post, the last time I tried marijuana was January last year when I went to visit a friend in Florida. She had some fudge and I ate some- it had plant parts in it, not just the blossom/bud (?). I ate it and felt fine for a few and then I went to the bathroom and began to black out and come to and black out for what seemed like every few seconds but who knows how long it was as I said time perception is distorted - it was distorted another time when I smoked some marijuana. (I hadn't had anything to drink, by the way.) Now don't think I'm a big marijuana user- those are two of maybe 3 times I've tried it. But now I know that that sort of distortion can happen even without the drug. This is one reason I will never try mushrooms or LSD- who knows what my brain would do with those! Probably scare the hell outta me! Slow songs on the radio are enough. I sometimes find myself all sped up say at the grocery store (but not lately) and can't get by all the people fast enough. They need to MOVE and do it yesterday! That's how it feels anyway.

Things seem to be going normal speed today. Well, I set a timer for my dinner for 45 minutes and that went by really fast. I was just looking at stuff online, but I'm sure that happens to everyone. I stopped using my eye drops. Today was supposed to be the last day, but I the last dose I took was yesterday. I stopped taking it because only 5 minutes after taking it, I got an asthma attack. Also, somehow the med was dripping down the back of my throat and it tasted horrible! It did that a few minutes after using the drops every time. Are you eyes connected to your throat somehow??

I don't have much information about it, but I've experienced something similar in the past.
