Reasons to stay alive....
There is no shame in asking for help, NONE. This is not what they tell me in my forest but I know its the truth. Respect to all PS is it possible for a GP to accurately diagnose bipolar or major treatment resistent depression in 5 minutes? __________________ |

I do not understand anything about the UK system, other than its dermatologists, who are quite excellent. Ditto, Australia's. Australia's are superlative. That said, people get good at what they do. If a GP is interested in bipolar disorder, they could probably be quite good at it. But the meds are a lot to learn for a non-pdoc.

Hi, Fuzzybear! First of all, thank you for reminding me that it's ok to ask for help. As for your question, it doesn't seem likely to me that the 5-minute diagnosis has a good chance of being accurate. Maybe they have a quota, or something, that they are supposed to meet. Maybe they get paid more for speeding up their diagnoses. I'm probably kidding?

I love the comment I have heard now from 2 shrinks, re the DSM... how it might be a good idea to either throw it in the trash can, or to use it as a door stop
Labels/dxs help many... but not so many in my forest, and not every single person in every other forest Especially when they aren't accurate or are full of pejorative judgments __________________ |

Hi, Fuzzybear ,I think the DSM should be used as a door stop (don't throw it in the trash can), just in case something in it might be useful.

I wouldn't trust a GP to diagnose...hmm, not to diagnose a mental illness at all, really.

-that someone, somewhere, loves you and is thinking about you
- that if everything isn't okay, it isn't the end - you could miss out on something good just around the corner - as long as you're alive, you have the power to change things |
