I took a psych med that caused some terrible side effects, some of which have remained. Light headedness. Brain pressure. Feeling unsteady on my feet. Difficulty finding words I want to use. Dizziness. Extreme fatigue.

The doctor did a neurological test and didn't find anything. The CT scan and MRI also didn't show anything bad.

I've been off of the med for two weeks. Shouldn't the side effects have gone away? Or can the side effects become permanent?

I am so sorry you are dealing with this. What was that medication?

That's good you got the tests.

Obviously, I can't know, but I am quite confident that those symptoms will eventually ease. Two weeks is nothing. It sometimes takes longer than that. We gotta be patient with things.

In my experience the side-effects you've described should be subsiding after 2 weeks of zero Zyprexa. Could the symptoms possibly be from a different med you're taking? Or did you withdraw from the Zyprexa too quickly? If so, you could be experiencing withdrawal.


But to answer your question...yes,there are side-effects from some meds that can become permanent. Do you know about tardive dyskenesia?

Try to destress as much as you can and do healthy, distracting, relaxing things. Definitely pamper yourself with some treats and walks in the most peaceful and beautiful places you can find.
I think you should give yourself longer to allow the side effects to go away, keeping in touch with your doctor. I myself cant take antipsychotics, for example. How long did you take the Zyprexa? If it was a short time span, you have a lot going for you. You did the right thing, you stopped the drug. We're all with you.

I've heard of TD but had forgotten about it. This could be due to another med or an interaction with another med. It's hard to say. My NP says she doesn't think the Zyprexa is at fault.

I only took Zyprexa for 3 days then my NP said to stop. I sure am glad I did. I've since read some horror stories about the drug.

Thank you for your suggestions. I'll think of some ways to pamper myself, maybe getting pedicures or massages.

I'm taking Seroquel now but it has much the same side effects, unfortunately. I'm losing weight but probably a lot more slowly than I would were I not on Seroquel. I'd like to wean down lower than the 150 I'm at while still being able to sleep. I slowly weaned down a while back, but once I was off it, I couldn't sleep. It sucked.

3 days? I'm no professional, but I sure have plenty of experience with psych meds. 3 days of Zyprexa wouldn't cause the issues you're having 2 weeks later.

It seems to me that you're having side effects form another med(s). I recently had my meds reduced because I was experiencing what you've described..."Light headedness. Brain pressure. Feeling unsteady on my feet. Difficulty finding words I want to use. Dizziness. Extreme fatigue."

It was awful.

I'm sorry you're dealing with this. I have experienced severe withdrawal effects from one med which continued much longer than the official info. would state.

I personally do not think that what you are experiencing will become permanent (I have never been a medical professional or clinical psychologist..)
