I just got diagnosed with sleep apnea, but I’m going to have to wait a long time for treatment. AISH disability health benefits should cover it, but they’ll require additional testing. I don’t know how long the wait list will be, but many months or possibly more year. This is affecting the quality of my sleep, my anxiety is being triggered and sleep affects my bipolar episodes and my migraines. I wish they would just accept the level 3 testing that I got, but apparently my bipolar meds mean I need the more extensive level 1 test. It’s inpatient, overnight, and someone said Covid-19 is delaying it at some facilities (I don’t know about the one that I would go to.) The problem is that I have to go without treatment for now.

There are other options. What type of sleep apnea do you have? Obstructive? Central? What is your AHI, do you know?

I'm sorry they won't treat you and get you a cpap/bipap asap. I CAN sleep without it but its not restful sleep because I keep turning over and waking up every time I have apnea. I've written about this in my blog. (In sig below.) Search for "sleep apnea".

I did the at home test, but I have to get the in-lab test before I can get the CPAP.

They said I have the obstructive sleep apnea. What is an AHI?

I hate the wait times. I hate the hoops I have to go through. And I hate the poor sleep.

It is a score you get. Guess they did not tell you. What is the financial and insurance scene. Not prying, just trying to help. Sleep apnea can be quite dangerous. I will go away and leave you alone if I am annoying you. I am obviously alone and have a lot of time and attempting to assist others in some small way helps my own brain circuitry. Sorta selfish, truthfully, I guess sorry.

17. The didn’t tell me the acronym, but they gave me the number. Apparently, that’s moderate. I’m on disability and it comes with benefits. In order to get the machine, I need to have few assets, which is true. I also need to get a more detailed sleep analysis in a lab because of the possibility confounding medication, and I don’t know how long the wait list is. After all that, I don’t know how long till I get the machine.

Okay. Got it. Have you ever tried one of those dealies the dentists make that you put in your mouth, or whatever? They do sometimes work.

Somehow I doubt that would be covered either. I’m talking about my options Monday afternoon.

So I posted on a Facebook group about my worries about getting a CPAP machine and someone is going to send me an old machine of his. He’s not even going to charge me shipping costs. I will need to buy a mask and it may need to be recalibrated, but it’s such a gift. I will still pursue one through AISH since that will allow me the yearly mask replacement and maybe I can give this machine as a donor to other people like me.

I’m looking forward to getting a good night sleep. I hear people wake up rested... even without being hypomania.

What a break, Merlin! Yay!

I did the in-clinic sleep test in February, my AHI was 11 (mild sleep apnea). I was scheduled to pick up my CPAP in March. The covid hit, the gov shut everything down, and I never did reschedule to pick up the CPAP. So that's my status.

Like you, Merlin, I have heard only good reports about using CPAPS.

It’s a little scary, but the treatment will improve our lives and reduce the health risk of sleep apnea.

You'll get used to it in time. I hated mine at first, but I HAD to use it because my insurance wouldn't pay for it unless I logged at least 4 hours a night with it for a month. (It was saved on a memory card in the machine.)
