Do you ever say something random on purpose to make someone laugh? I used to crack everyone up by just saying random teachers names or random famous people. My newest thing is “do you like Boston Market?” It just comes out of no where and people get confused.
I don’t know. Maybe this is just a form of gaslighting.

I have done something quite similar, not just for the sake of humor, but sometimes as a type of release (bipolar/anxiety/irritability coping skill). For example, I have this extreme love for the word "chicken". The sound of it is absolutely hilarious. I used to crack up my sister all of the time when I came out with the word, and I did so quite enthusiastically. If interested, I wrote about my love for that word within a funny story at So extremely bad…that it’s amazing!!! – Bird Flight Have to also add this video of an interview with Christopher Walken. It starts with O'Brien showing Walken Walken impersonations, but then they discuss how scary can equal funny. This is a great follow-up to the above, I think. It's at I love this topic! I don't really think that's gaslighting, you're good, just your sense of humor

I've started conversations more just like that. "Pineapple.... I like to eat it." LOL I have a lot of inside jokes that are even funnier just said in the spur of the moment out of context of what happened. My humor is a bit dry and a bit silly, in general. Think about the internet generation and the idea of memes -- it's similar to your chicken example. I'm a bit old school but I have been known to make my own memes based on popular image memes or using specific phrases. One of my favorites I posted in my classroom when I was a teacher was of Willy Wonka (1971) and it usually is something like "Oh you X, tell more about [insert a contrast or action that makes the X statement silly, weird, or ineffective]. Mine said "Oh, you want extra credit? Tell me more about how you don't do the regular credit." hahahah Or, the pun dog meme is a favorite as well! hahaha They are almost always "dad jokes". lol I know I'm leaving the topic a bit, but it's the same idea -- memes have replaced traditional joke telling lots of ways and we can apply it to just about any situation. I'll share just a few that make me smile :P OR if you get time, look up Arroyo Restaurant 2020 memes. Those crack me up haha!! Maybe we should start a meme thread? :P |

It is so true that memes are taking over for the old traditional jokes. Clearly it's because people literally speak with others less. Plus, I think full body language must accompany the traditional jokes, which is another think lacking, nowadays. So many of us are home alone, or nearly alone. The minimalist aspect to memes or cartoons is still powerful when represented/presented well. I like your idea about a memes thread, but to keep it here on Bipolar forum, it would likely have to be focused on bipolar symptoms. Otherwise I'd think a moderator would move it. Thanks for sharing about the Arroyo Restaurant memes. Hilarious and so true! You know, we don't need anyone else in the room to express humor. Or even anyone else "out there" on the worldwide web. I entertain myself greatly with humor. All for me. I am usually the funniest person I know, because I know what really makes me laugh and helps with stress release. I won't link to my blog again, but will quote a post title that "Many forms of communication can give psychological relief". |

Agreed, and as far as a meme thread, perhaps it would survive in a general chat, but I'm not into change nor wanting to take initiate to make a thread that won't be seen. Maybe I'm part of the problem? lol I did want to share this one, because it is mental illness related. I thought twice about it , but you reminded me: "I can either laugh or cry about this." I find this both uplifting, a little comical, and not bad motivation ![]() But man, she had a rough year -- and apparently she's going through a lot currently too. |

![]() I guess more folks here know Britney than poor Chris Walken ![]() By the way, I have no idea what you mean about you being part of any problem here. Truly! That's just in your head, my friend. |
