Thinking about this recently, and I know there are several folks around here with strong spiritual beliefs. Before meds I used to be quite spiritually inclined, but ever since I found stability, I also found a complete blank when it came to faith. Do I even believe in God, and what does it mean to believe in God without any passionate emotion?

Any thoughts?

At times when I've been heavily medicated, or overmedicated, feeling anything deeply and connecting with higher concepts was impossible. I felt numbed out and lifeless, with almost no vitality. Since you were spiritually inclined in the past, is it possible that you're medicated too heavily?

IMO, good habits are helpful--I read and pray everyday. I do this whether or not I feel passionate or not. I am not sure if I am bipolar, but my passion/emotions have always fluctuated--perhaps all people are this way. IMO, what we "feed" our mind (read, watch, who we talk to, etc.) does effect our outlook and beliefs.

Belief in God doesn’t require passionate emotion at all. Belief in God is a rational thing. I’m kind of the opposite , now that I’m not on medication , I find my practice (not belief) of faith to be suffering.

I suppose it's possible, but a dosage below what I'm currently on is insufficient to address the lovely "features" that come along with my BP. I don't feel zombie'd though; I just don't have the intensity, including with regard to faith, that I used to have.

So Sorry that you're experiencing this! i don't have a lot to suggest unfortunately outside of talking about this with your pdoc and with some Priest if you know any to better discuss your Faith in God. i Hope and Pray that you will be able to find your previous Faith! Please do not give up. You matter. Sending many Safe, warm hugs to BOTH you, @rwwff, your Family, your Friends and ALL of your Loved Ones! Keep fighting and keep rocking NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENS, OK?!

hmm! hadn't really thought of it from that point of view. Maybe its my prior approach to faith that just lacked maturity, and a new approach from a rational perspective would be a step forward and not some inherent failing..

It took me a long time to learn this but there is grace. God knew long before I was ever conceived that I would have this life and illness. God gives me grace to get through it, even when that changes how I wish my relationship with Him would be. He gets it and that's all that really matters.
