My therapist told me to try online support groups, because it may help me feel less scared.

I got a recent diagnosis of bipolar (like 2 months recent) and I have no idea what I am doing? I have very little support (basically just my boyfriend...)

So if anyone has any ideas or knows mechanisms that work for them, or has been managing this for a while I'd appreciate the help.!

Welcome Tedd! I agree with your therapist.

Can you give an example of a situation that troubles you? I'm trying to get an idea of what exactly you need help with. Also, what happened that gave you a diagnosis?

Welcome Tedd!

One of the things that helped me a lot in the beginning was learning a lot about bipolar. I found Psych Education to be very helpful with that. It's written by a psychiatrist who specializes in bipolar and is full of information. I've been dealing with this for 19 years and that's still where I go if I need to look something up.

Feel free to post questions and we'll be happy to answer them or join the check-in thread for discussions about daily life with bipolar.

I'm also sending you a welcome, @Tedd. I think you'll find this forum supportive. If you ever wish to have face-to-face support peer support, DBSA (Depression and Support Alliance) may be in your area. They also offer online video meetings. All for free.

I found it helpful to do an extensive timeline to help me recognize triggers (stress) and symptoms that I was starting to go up too high (planning a party). Symptoms are different for different people.Depression is easier to recognize in its mild forms, I think-lethargy, sadness, tendency to isolate. I have missed states and I rapid cycle when I am most stressed, so I have to be careful to do self care and to slow down when things seem awry. I feel like that right now because my t is leaving, my dog contracted Valley Fever, and my ex has been diagnosed with copd. The air quality isnt great here tho it look fine, and there is a lot of construction very close to my house. The isolation of covid intensifies problems, but we have been careful and very lucky. It helps to write this. Thanks.
