Right now I take 10mg zyprexa three times a day and I was thinking about just taking 10mg in the morning and 20mg at night since I haven't been sleeping well and I always forget the afternoon dose anyways. Would that be "bad?"

I'm in between med providers so no official to ask.

I'm about ready to make a med change on my own so I'd say do what you feel is best. Just be careful.

Its been 84 years since I last slept good.

My pdoc told me last Thursday the world might end which is the whole reason I am like this right now. And my therapist will only help me and be there for me during sessions. So I know what you mean about having no one to ask.

I wouldn't call it "bad"...I think the idea, though, is to keep a stable blood level. I, too, find it hard to remember to take a mid-day med. I put the bottle on my table or someplace where I cannot help but see it. The top of the toilet seat or something. Anywhere that works.

My problem is though my eyes see it, I don’t register it after a couple days. I have a horrible, horrible time remembering mid-afternoon doses. I have no idea if doubling up is a good idea. Like Beth mentioned I think the idea is to have a stable blood level. The reason we supposed to take our meds on a regular schedule. Fortunately the only med I take in the afternoon is iron. I forget so often I have no idea if my blood level has gone back to normal or not. My doctor prescribed it but hasn’t followed up with any tests.

I think it’s best you check with a pdoc but it sounds like a pretty reasonable request.
I’m sorry you’re struggling to sleep

To my old psychiatrist, this may be something he would have allowed. In fact, I had a few psychiatrists who modified dosing a bit because of certain side effects, like oversedation. But I don't know your doctor's views. It's best to discuss these things with him/her. Sometimes you can discuss in advance "Ifs" and options.

I have taken Zyprexa in the past, but only briefly. I forget its half life and other attributes. I can say that I've had meds that clearly worked better when taking twice or three times daily over once or twice. I have had many occasions where a small"er" dose in the morning and a larg"er" at night was beneficial.

I'd be a lying hypocrite if I wrote that I've never self modified my meds. I even did a bit with pregabalin, recently. I'm unsure how my new psychiatrist will feel. He seems stricter than my previous one. Disapproval or even anger can result.

I tried it last night (I looked up the halflife and it seems like it'd be fine to take it this way) and I actually slept through the night.
