Has anyone else ever been manic for weeks on end?
I was put on Risperdal about a month ago to treat mania and I'm still waiting for it to work for me. Is that normal?

My longest manic episode was 3 months long. Maybe you need a higher dose or risperdal just isn't your med. Sending hugs, keep yourself safe

I have gone manic for almost a year. I used to be on that medication for a year or two and I actually really liked it but I had bad side effects from it and I had to quit taking it. I could feel the anger melting away when I would take it. Best of luck to you. You might just need a new med.

I'd give the medication a bit more time. Plus, are you 100% sure it hasn't helped at all? Sometimes we can't tell as well as others.
I've had manias that went on for months. Also, I've had manias that eased and then returned very soon after. I didn't always go from mania to depression to mania to depression. Sometimes it was mania to hypomania to mania to sort of stable, to mania to mixed mania, and on. During about a 2 1/2 year period this was definitely the case. It was hard to know if an episode actually stopped before a new one or it was the same darned episode just waxing and waning.

The longest I was manic was 3 days where I was IP and refused to eat the entire 3 days yet didn't feel any hunger. The staff didn't care because I didn't have an ED and they only cared when the ED patients did stuff like that.
Its like as a 13-14 year old teenager I tried telling people I needed help but was labeled an attention seeker and then as a 27 year old adult and was brushing the same issues off thats when everyone freaks out including my mom. What gives?

Vraylar has helped me with mania, but it's kind of a pain to get because insurance will want you to try like 9 different meds before they cover it. Sometimes to overcome mania, I just have to like make an inventory and a piece of paper about the behaviors happening in my episode and try to use timers and post it note reminders to check myself and force myself into functionality. Mania is such a fine line to manage if the meds aren't helping, but I usually have to set up routines regardless when I recognize highs coming.
