Why don't you want to? I played some games during my bipolar study that had to do with memory. It's not too difficult. And besides, there is no right or wrong answer. Just do what you can do!

I guess just because I’m scared??? My psyd told me today when I go through it I have to talk about my trauma in detail and I sort of relive it. I don’t like talking about it.

For a memory game? What exactly is this for? I agree with you: I wouldn't want to relive trauma either!

No not a game. Psych testing of my memory/cognitive ability by a specialist aka neuropsychologist. I forget eveyrthing and its gotten worse. I describe it as brain fog but my PCP wants me to get testing done to make sure I am ok because we checked and it is def. not my thyroid (I have an underactive one) and that sometimes gets off balance. I asked my therapist today if I should really go and he said its not a bad idea. He thinks a lot of my memory difficutlies could be related to my anxiety levels and how stress affects me. Its my number vulnerability factor that hes noticed but he said it could be helpful. He wants me to go to his old coworker bc he feels hed be the right one to go to price wise and experience.

on a side note he started talking about what Id have to do when I go and some of it was Id have to share my trauma story so he can get a full picture of my struggles. How do you share ten years of hell with a stranger? since i left ive been having panic attacks and crying today. I guess he triggered me IDK it was weird. I was in and still kinda am in an ok mood. im just jumpy and anxious. I just had a full blown panic attack a bit ago with the sweating and dizziness and all the fun stuff.

For example: Ill decide I want to stop at a store and buy sudafed cause I live in kentucky and its allergy season (LOL YAy ohio valley allergies!) and within 5 minutes ive already driven past the store and dont remember. or like when i got off the phone and said id call back in five minutes and literally forgot for hours. except its all the time. i forget words a lot. but im starting to get in trouble with my memory. my psyd wants to see if its my meds causing, anxiety or cognition.

Wow. We had bad storms just a bit ago. Tornado hit not far from some of my family’s house. We had tornado warnings forever it seemed like! My nephew was terrified and kept me on the phone til it was over

I had a memory test many years ago. I don't even remember how I scored. I have a lot of memory probs now, I believe it's from taking Klonopin for decades.

I’d really find out if you need to go into
Details of your trauma. You might be able to just give broad strokes ?

That’s just what Matt said. He worked with the guy for a while-it’s who he wants me to see.

My PDoc wants me to have this done too. She said it can be like eight hours of testing broken down to 2 days or more. Good luck <3

I am a neuropsych. Don’t worry about it. Memory testing is very straightforward. They’ll have you listen to some stories and have you recall them, show you some designs that you have to memorize, etc.

That’s got be more than memory testing. Memory testing takes 2 hours max. She’s probably wanting you to have a full evaluation. Also no big deal. You’ll work with some blocks, copy symbols quickly, figure out patterns and picture puzzles. Most of my patients enjoy it.

I’ve had memory testing among others…they found a twenty point reduction in working memory….they couldn’t say if it was my meds or illness but suggested I take fish oil which helped some.

You’ll probably be doing some other things (reasoning and problem-solving) then. Again, not a big deal and can actually be enjoyable

I recently had this testing, and it was quite the experience. The doctors who tested me were very nice and made me feel as comfortable as possible, although I was pretty nervous and several of the timed tests made me really, really anxious. I’d asked my pdoc if she would refer me to neuropsych because I was afraid I was developing dementia. She was glad to and I went in February. Much to my relief I was told I didn’t have dementia, but I do have mild neurocognitive impairment disorder. However, there was a section of the testing that I apparently failed miserably and it happened to be one that corresponds with driving ability, and I was recommended to stop driving.

Well, THAT came out of nowhere, and I was upset at first. But then I thought about how much trouble I was having with driving—how nervous I was, when I’d always been fearless on the road, and how I even had difficulty parking the car correctly in the stall (I tend to be over the line or park crookedly). I haven’t made up my mind as to whether I’m going to give up driving; I have a cast on my right leg right now (long story) which makes it impossible to drive, and I already feel resentful that I can’t. But while I probably should give up control of the wheel, I like to keep my options open.
