Hi guys,

I've been away for I think 6 months or more. A lot of things have happened.

1. I was discharged from my CPN (Community Psychiatric Nurse) March 2022 cause she was retiring and we weren't working on anything

2. I was discharged from my Peer Support Worker Oct 2022 cause she didn't see what else we could do together

3. I lost my volunteering role as a Peer Support Worker in the local mental day hospital cause they wanted new people November 2022

4. I gave up on volunteering March 2023

5. I became unwell Jan-April 2023 mania. I contacted my team they have refused to treat me.

6. I want to obtain my medical records from NHS (the health care system in the UK). I am going through this process

7. I have so much to say just not feeling it right now

Just wanted to say I'm still here alive and kicking. Just some what unsure these days

Hope your all well

Hi guys,

My mania was quite bad so I called my mental health centre where my Psychiatrist is based. I only have a Psychiatrist here as everyone else has discharged me. I called 5 times and have been for an assessment with them this was all in March. The last communication I had with a nurse she said I had to keep on at them via calling in so that I was on the system and then they would help me wtah!!! I'm like I'm not gonna call I've called 5 times already. I got one guy nurse who said my skin crawling had nothing to do with my mental health but was actually a skin condition and to seek support from the pharmacy. Also he said my Psychiatrist wasn't overly concerned about me. This was my 3rd phone call in 1 week and an assessment at the centre by a nurse. Fml. I give up. No one cares about us anymore. We are all just a number to the mental health team. I'm seeing my Psychiatrist face to face since Nov 2019 on 7th June. It's been video calls since covid. I'm taking my sister in with me too.

My counsellor wrote a letter to my Psychiatrist this was 3 weeks ago. I haven't heard a thing from him. Not has my counsellor. Again proves there is no care at all. I was screaming out for support and got nothing.

I'm feeling less buzzy now a days still high but less buzzy. My counsellor thinks I definitely have adhd inattentivness. I'm showing clear signs of this so who knows as I sure don't

Miss Laura,
I am so sorry your mental heath services kicked you out. I am glad that you have a pdoc.As you know that buggy sensation can be a side effect from your meds.
sorry it is so hard for you right now.
We have listening ears for you. welcome back.

Nice to meet you as I am new.

It sounds like you have been through so much. I recently lost my psychiatrist to retirement and I miss her a lot.

How can a mental health team "refuse to treat" someone? That's so nasty. I hope you can find the help you need.

Hi there and welcome to the forum.

I'm really struggling to understand my mental health teams decisions. They 2 nurses suggested a med to combat the mania which I was all for but it was dismissed by my Psychiatrist. So no idea why. Also having my Psychiatrist appt in June I'm hoping to obtain and read my notes and if needs be challenge him in what he's wrote if needs be. I'm just so angry with my community mental health team

Is there any way to appeal the mental health team's decision, like to escalate the situation to a supervisor or manager?

Not that I am aware of. My counsellor wrote them a letter detailing her worries for me. That was 3 weeks ago. No acknowledgement at all. I have no other contact with the team except via Psychiatrist but I have to wait for my appt in June the waiting list is long so he wouldn't get back to me. My Psychiatrist is the consultant so he's the main guy. I'm taking my sister with me to my appt to make it clear I'm angry with the treatment I have been given by the so called professionals

Sorry to hear you've had this experience @Miss Laura.
In my area of the UK, the MH team used covid as an excuse to discharge as many people as possible from MH Services. It was difficult enough getting onto their list before covid, now it's virtually impossible. Even if you're in a MH crisis they don't want to know.
The whole system is just broken.

Yeah your definitely right I got zero support from my CPN and Support Worker through lockdown. It was like I was forgotten about. When my CPN retired last March I had covid so couldn't go in. I asked for a phone call. I called her as she never called me the call lasted 5 mins as she was late to my appt and gad other people after me. I was really angry. Felt very let down by the whole system. We are just a number on their books nothing more

Today in the post I got my medical records from psychiatry. The psychologist had written avoidant personality disorder and social anxiety in 2018, first I've heard of it by reading it. My ex cpn wrote some personality traits in about 2012. My Psychiatrist had written Bradykinetic which I had to Google as never heard if it before. I was close to being put in the hospital on a mental health treatment order omg I never knew this, this was last year too. Why do they hide things from us like that? My notes are incomplete 4 people's notes are missing from the records

I suspect they do not want to scare and upset the client. It appears to be a common practice.

Like you I got a copy of my entire record and have been reading through the documents to understand what happened. I discovered a lot of information was withheld such as diagnoses, psych med induced QT prolongation, a drug interaction that made me ill, and the psych med induced delirium I experienced. The last one is pure incompetence. It is so hard to believe they didn't see it but the ER doctors did. Labs also backed the diagnosis. It wasn't enough to convince psychiatry though. -- The documents are a superb example of cognitive bias and incompetence.

Psychiatry doesn't really know what its doing. There isn't much evidence to support their treatments. They seem to hurt people more than actually help them.
