please report to your pdoc you are only getting 2 hours of sleep.
This can lead up to an episode.
I am sorry you have such a hard time sleeping.

I really feel sorry for those that struggle.

@bizi I'm not due to see him any time soon. I just saw him on 28th Feb. So it won't be until April-Aug until I see him. Contacting him is a waste of time. I'm due to get the depot injection on 14th March so I'll tell them. Then they can tell him and take it from there

Sleep apnea can cause heart trouble amongst other things like falling asleep during the day. I think in this case a sleep study is in order.

I'm not sure if I can say I take Seroquel XR (quetiapine ER) specifically for sleep, but without it I don't sleep.I see that medication more as a moodstabilizer, for me. When I have had sleep issues, despite that, my psychiatrist has added about 50 to 100 mg of Seroquel IR (instant release) on top of that. The "action", as I call it, is different. Being "instant release" it would knock me out better, though the XR does keep me asleep well. However, I have recently been weaned off the instant release, so again only take the extended. Even despite one or both of the above, I have occasionally taken 1 mg Ativan (lorazepam) as an extra sleep aid, but only "prn". I generally don't need it, unless I have a lot of anxiety and/or racing thoughts.I've also added that in cases where I forgot my evening medications until late at night. If I take my evening meds as late as 1 am, I won't fall asleep until 4 am, or later, but the Ativan knocks me out a bit earlier. It's important because if I take my evening meds very late I develop extra anxiety or even mild instability, regardless of usual stability.

I don't recommend Ativan as a regular sleep aid, though.

I take Hydroxyzine, (an anxiety med with calming effects), and melatonin to sleep. It is a pretty good combination. My lithium and risperidone aren't really sleep meds but I also take them at the same time. Along with my CPAP I average about 8-9 hours a night which has been really helpful in getting a handle on my bipolar.

I have always believed that I don't have bipolar, that my lack of sleep and excessive insomnia is what caused all my manic episodes and hospitalizations. Since I've addressed this issue, I haven't been hospitalized in almost 2 years.

Hydroxyzine - 50 mg
Alprazolam - 2 mg
Ambien CR 12.5 mg - As Needed
Morphine SR 30 mg - Not for sleep, but it doesn't hurt, literally.

What do you take for sleep 😴?
