How long until your prolactin level returns to normal after stopping risperdal? Mine was high a week ago or so before we stopped it. I stopped risperdal several days ago and I woke up to sore achey breasts this morning . Should I ask for another prolactin level blood draw?

Just went to Costco. I’m overly emotional today. Irrationally so. Mad and crying at Caleb! I reported it to my psych Np.

Can lack of meds make you overly emotional? My pnp hasn’t responded and neither has my case manager.

Thanks! I’m seeing my primary dr Friday about the raised prolactin - maybe she’ll order a blood test to see where my level is and can give me an idea of when it might return to normal since my psych np was a ***** about it today.

I ended up crying for four hours straight this afternoon. That’s was after my stupid Pdoc said “emotions are normal “!

Pnp came to her senses after I begged for help this morning! She raised my Vraylar to 6- the max dose. I took it an hour ago. We’ll see how it goes. I hope uneventfully.

My primary dr said “No more Risperdal!” She could feel the changes in my breasts- especially the outer sides. My prolactin went back down to the normal range but I’ve gained 10 pounds in the three weeks I was on it- and that was only the .5 dose! Weight I definitely didn’t need to gain!

Risperdal (risperidone) can cause significant weight gain, which is a major risk factor for the development of prediabetes and other metabolic conditions like insulin resistance and high cholesterol. Risperidone stimulates appetite by affecting hypothalamic receptors and neuropeptide Y, leading to increased food intake and weight gain. Monitoring weight, glucose levels, and lipids is crucial for patients taking risperidone to help prevent or manage these potential complications.
How Risperdal Leads to Prediabetes
Increased Appetite:
Risperidone can increase food intake and stimulate appetite by interacting with hypothalamic neurons that regulate energy balance.
Metabolic Syndrome:
The resulting weight gain can trigger a cascade of metabolic issues, including insulin resistance, high cholesterol, and elevated triglycerides, which collectively make up the metabolic syndrome.
Insulin Resistance:
Weight gain from risperidone use contributes to insulin resistance, a key factor in the development of prediabetes and type 2 diabetes.
Key Risks and Complications
Weight Gain: A significant risk for patients taking risperidone.
Prediabetes and Diabetes: The weight gain can lead to insulin resistance, increasing the likelihood of developing prediabetes and eventually type 2 diabetes.
High Cholesterol: Risperidone use is also associated with high serum cholesterol (dyslipidemia).
Monitoring and Management
Regular Monitoring:
Healthcare providers should regularly monitor weight, waist circumference, blood glucose levels, and blood lipids in patients on risperidone.
Lifestyle Interventions:
Strategies like diet and exercise can help manage or prevent weight gain and associated metabolic problems.
Metformin:
In some cases, medications like metformin may be used to help prevent or manage antipsychotic-induced weight gain and insulin resistance.
Doctor Consultation:
Discuss any weight changes or concerns with your healthcare provider to determine the best course of action for your situation.

My primary dr portal messaged me saying the A1C spike is directly related to the 3 weeks of Risperdal and now that I’m not taking it anymore my number should go back to normal.

My primary dr put me on metformin. However, even before starting it, I’ve lost 5 of the 10 pounds I gained on Risperdal!
