Bipolar is a mental illnes. There is no known cure. It can only be managed. Therapy, support groups, friends and family support, medications, research.

Anti depressants alome can sometimes make a person with Bipolar go into a hypomania or manic episode

I just get so angry. So irritable. And I can't stop thinking. Always thinking. Always analyzing and picking things apart. It sucks. I don't even know if I believe my diagnosis. Sure I get tired and depressed. But I'm not sure if I ever hit mania or hypomania. I think I was just in a bad situation when I was diagnosed.

Idk. Maybe I'm rambling. I just hate people thinking I'm crazy.

Bipolar is not curable, sadly. But, as you said, it can be managed with medication and therapy.

I have heard people say that it helps them. But for me with BP I do not do so well in group therapy. My anxiety gets to me too much. But then again like I said with some people they love it and it works well for them.

Yep, unfortunately

Question 1: does bipolar tend to get worse over time?
Question 2a: why has there been made a difference between BP1 and 2? Since the treatment (pharmacotherapy/psychoeducation/selfmanagement etc.) is the same.
Question 2b: why does one qualify for BP1 after even 1 mixed episode?

Mx: To clean up the mess use lamotrigine, r
isperidon, mirtazapine and sertraline. Let it soak in for a while but keep a close eye on it. Meanwhile enjoy your desert of oxazepam/temazepam prn.

My daughter(30) has just moved back home, diagnosed bipolar.
Simple question : should I help her keep things basically tidy in her room or is that enabling ? Or would it be better to encourage her to do things for herself?
I've known depression myself & know how the simplest thing can become overpoweringly difficult to accomplish.

I think encouraging is always better but, like you know from experience even the smallest task seems like a marathon, she might need help. Maybe you can ask her if she needs help or how you can help. If she can't answer this open question you can suggest helping keep her room tidy.

Bipolar and ADD are completely different. Usually Bipolar children are misdiagnosed with ADD because the symptoms for both in children are very similar.

In general ppl are misdiagnosed with all kinds of mental problems until the **** really hits the fan (unfortunately).

I am new here. I have been receiving treatment for over 20 years bipolar, PTSD, severe anxiety and ADD. I take several medications and see a psychiatrist for my mental illness. I have no coping skills so dealing with life events are difficult. My question is: Does mental illness tend to get worse as you get older? It seems the older I get the more problems I develop. I didn't have ADD/ADHD as a child I was just diagnosed 2 years ago with it. I have developed social anxiety in the last 7 years. I used to be so out going now I'm afraid to go anywhere. Can there be a chance of any of this being a side effect of all the medication?

What medications are you taking?
There's always a possibility of any illness worsening over time, esp when it goes unchecked. Sometimes Bipolar can look similar to ADHD/ADD. Anxiety is an entirely different monster. However, recognizing that you lack coping skills is actually a positive thing. It's hard to improve something when a person either doesn't see it or denies it. My suggestion would be to find a counselor, therapist, social worker or someone along those lines that will help you learn coping skills and how to apply them in order to achieve your goals in life. Hang in there. Mental illnesses sucks but it takes a strong person to get up everyday and battle life. Congratulate yourself on being a very strong person

Hi not sure if I have bipolar II , as I have not seen a doctor but any advice would be welcome
I have had a major manic episode since January, it's been quite fabulous , loads of energy , very little sleep ,belle of the ball and not the least bit unnerving , but I am left with a horrible feeling of sadness/emptiness all the time which is the worst part
Calming down somewhat now but still feeling so alone
Will this feeling go eventually ?
