As my life goes on, I find it harder and harder to focus on anything but that which I'm intensely interested in. At this point getting school work done takes forever, I end up not doing most assignments and hand it half of the rest really late. I can't even focus enough to read a magazine article, or a comic strip. I don't know what it is, whether I am distracted by my racing thoughts or out-of-control emotions or what.

Does anyone else experience this? Its gotten so ridiculous and makes it so hard to get by. I was diagnosed with bipolar II. Is this a problem that bipolar can come with, or is it something else? Its driving me crazy and putting my education in jeopardy...

I definitely experience this!! I can't focus at work, or when studying. I used to be very focused and did well in school, but now, I just can't stay on one thing for a while or I get distracted too easily.

I don't know if it's part of the Bipolar or not. I'm also Bipolar II.

Bipolar I here, but also got dxed as ADD, so take Concerta for that & then I still had excessive daytime sleepiness from other meds so Provigil was added. Both help tremedously with focus & energy level, but I stll have memory difficulties & "foggy thinking" on m y other meds for biploar.--Suzy

I'm Bipolar II, too.

Hey jamminpianogirl, you're not the only one. ;[
It's one of my current struggles and I hate it. I used to be in the Dean's List (more like an honors list) but now, I have failed some of my subjects in college and it's getting worse. I hope we all get by with our problems.

It also takes forever for me to accomplish a task, and I procrastinate more than usual. Is this common to bipolar people?

Maybe talk to your doc/therapist about this so he/she can help you get by. My mom doesn't want me to seek help now so I'm stuck with failure. I'm thinking of getting them on my own when I save money from my weekly college allowance.

But I can't go on like this, having too much failure going on in most aspects of my life ;[
