Hi and welcome to PC ;]
I met someone here on PsychCentral with the same diagnosis as you do, but I forgot his username. Just wanted to know you're not alone ;] Clandestine |

I'm pretty sure that when I was diagnosed I was bipolar NOS, but then later on, I saw on my paperwork that I was either I or II. It changed.

When I was first dxed it was bipolarNOS. Later as the pdoc got to know me & saw my symptoms first hand it changed to bipolar I. Last time I went in (getting meds adjusted now) she put down from the code bipolar I--mixed episode--moderate. I always come home & look up on psychcentral to see what she put down to see how she is evaluating me! She's right on the money
So I think often at the beginning it is NOS as the doc cannot specify what the last episode was or what all the symptoms are.--Suzy |

I'm bipolar NOS too for now. The psychiatrist who DXed me said he had enough evidence of me having bipolar... but just a few months ago the psychiatrist who's been taking care of my stuff for the past 10 months said they are wondering if I have bipolar.
I know I am, because I have diary entries from age 13 that clearly indicate that I'm bipolar. ![]() The NOS diagnosis may be given when you are first DXed with bipolar, and you have a new pdoc and everything, and they want to "examine" you more... that is, by putting you into treatment and checking out your moods and stuff like that. Scattered thoughts.

Hi,
Not sure if this helps at all, but I was diagnosed about a month ago as Bipolar Spectrum something or other. I don't qualify for BP II, and definitely not BP I. As I understand it, it's like just the Depression part of Bipolar, but the depression is sometimes agitated and irritable, moreso than a normal reaction. It's treated differently than normal (unipolar) depression, and is a fairly new distinction. I am still new to this, and feel a bit of an imposter in these forums because I don't get hypomanic, but I have a genetic disposition toward bipolar (thanks mom!), and I find myself iwth a lot of questions. I don't know if this helps at all, but I'm tapering up on Lamictal and look forward to experiencing it at a therapeutic dose... |
