After being treated for Depression for 10 years, I have been properly (I think) diagnosed as Bipolar Spectrum Disorder (or something like that?).
Anyone else out there have this? I feel like a bipolar imposter because I don't get manic or hypomanic, but I'm hoping that the treatment will work. Also, I have concerns that I will grow into a true BP II diagnosis, given my mother's untreated trajectory. I have a great doc who can answer my questions, but I would also love to hear form people who are living with this. Any insights are appreciated! Thank you. |

Hi,
I may be wrong, but I believe Bipolar Spectrum Disorder is just a broad general term for the Bipolar disorders: Bipolar I, Bipolar II, and Bipolar Not-Otherwise-Specified. Does anyone else know if this is the case? |

Yes, I think it might be bipolar NOS. That's what I was first dxed with until the pdoc could delve into my background & my symptoms, etc.& determine that I was bipolar 1. Now I'm usually dxed as bipolar 1 mixed-moderate on the form. At one time I was dxed as bipolar 1--in full remission (was that for about 5 years until I had a relapse--went into hypo mania for 5 mos., then depression & overdose). Now it's been 2 years & I still haven't recovered completely; hence, the mixed.--Suzy

rdubs, i don't think you should feel like an imposter. With bipolar you don't necessarily get manic, sometimes you just get hypomanic, and maybe sometimes not even that.
