Is it just me or does anyone else think there is a link between being bipolar and catching every bug that comes our way? I've heard others say they experience sickness more often than most in the past, but was wondering if anyone else has this problem.

My oldest is only 1-1/2 months into the school year and I'm recovering from my second cold. This one was quite a doosie too. It also happened to coincide with my youngest child’s 1st birthday party so I got to play hostess during it and then the next day I could hardly move.

I don't think it's related to having bipolar, I know many people who don't experience any increased incidents.
I do think if one is having continued stress and/or less sleep, also poor nutrition, that these factors will be great contributors to over taxing the immune system.
There has been and still ongoing research about stress and it's negative effects on the immune system of humans and even animals/pets. Another thing that doesn't help, is having hypothyroidism, it interfers with many things. It may help to take note of your eating and sleeping habits, maybe you can find if you are not getting enough quality sleep and/or proper nutriton
in your daily diet?
Just my 2 cents.
Meanwhile, I'm sending you well wishes for good health and inner peace.
Take care,
DE

My dd is 12 yo and gave me a cold last week.... It hit me like a ton of bricks and I have been barely functioning ever since... I agree with the other poster that stress has a great deal to do with it... I really don't think it is BP itself... I am continually stressed out by having to deal with my BP as well as child rearing, etc. That said, I rarely catch colds but haven't been taking my vitamins like I usually do so I have resumed them as well as my cod liver oil. I am also scheduling a doc appt so that I can get a flu shot. I would suggest the same for you... Especially with your children being smaller...they bring home everything...

Okay... I'm done. I now have an ear infection. I'm not even completely over this last cold. I'm sitting at my computer in a lot of pain even after taking 800 mg of Ibuprofen and 2 of the Vicadin I had left over from having the last kiddo. I don't know how I'm going to make it through tonight. I have a doctor's appointment tomorrow morning to have it looked at. Ouch! Ouch! Ouch!

I haven't have many colds at all in the past years. But then it could be because I'm on disability due to bipolar and I don't get out much (work)around others?

I agree that its probably stress, diet, kid, and season-related. I don't think it has to do with BP specifically. I am starting to get a bit of a scratchy throat, myself, though.

Okay, I'm just coming up for breath from the latest bought of illness. My ear still hurts and I've been on antibiotics for a week. The good news is that I didn't end up with a perferation although I was close. Although, I think I'm going to have to call the doctor again tomorrow. I think I caught another cold, but then again, with the ear infection, it is hard to tell. I've always been prone to this sort of thing. I swear if I lived in the middle ages I would have died before I hit puberty!

I have lived with Bipolar most of my life and know many people that are also bipolar. I also know that we have alot of stress in our lives and anytime your body is stressed it can't fight infection as well. I will get sick, cold, ear infection, flu, bla bla bla. If it is in the wind I will get it but I think it has a lot to do with the fact that I am under so much stress all the time my body just can't fight it.
