Is bipolar an schizo affective disorder, are they the same? Which , one is more treatable? I think, I suffer from both. My mom was dx schizo affective and I was dx bipolar, I take more medicene than her. I don't understand the two, even after I read about them, maybe someone can tell me.

No, they're not the same. Schizo affective disorder means that someone has characteristics of both bipolar (i.e. low or high mood) and schizophrenia (i.e. delusions or hallucinations). I think people have debated as to whether it should really be its own disorder. It seems confusing to me too because I thought people diagnosed with bipolar could have delusions without being considered to have a type of schizophrenia, but I'm not sure if they can have hallucinations.

Basically its the official name for when bipolar and schizophrenia run into each other. But I'm no expert!

Thanks for your help jamminpianogirl. I really appreciate it. It seems a little clearer to me now.
