My brother (my only living family member) doesn't want to be in a caring role for me anymore. He is burnt out and tired due to my hospitalizations, ER visits,.......etc. He wants time and distance from me. Only e-mail communication.

I'm sad, angry, in shock........list goes on!

How to I move beyond my feelings and enjoy life without him in it?

Very sad,

Zen What to do when family abandons you?

Oh, Zen... I'm so sorry. What to do when family abandons you?

Please remember that we care here and from what you said this isn't complete nor permanent. In situations like this I think about when you are in an airplane and those little masks fall down from the ceiling. You are supposed to put one on yourself and then help those who need it. He wouldn't be any good to you if he isn't okay and you want him to take care of himself right? It doesn't make it any easier and I wish this hadn't happened, but hopefully your brother is able to recharge and be able to be back in your life soon.

Hi Zen88

I'm so sorry you are going through this. Do you have any friends you can reach out to ? We have some day programs here that cater to mentally ill adults, usually with a 9-3 schedule. There are lots of supportive and kind people here too, if you need to vent!

Take care,
Dee
