Just last Wednesday, I found out that I'm diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder...never expected that since my regular psychiatrist said I was Major Depressive. My neuropsychologist did tests on me and concluded it was Bipolar. What do I do now? How can I help myself?
Btw, I'm already on medication (15mg Lexapro and 1 mg Risperdal)

Hello. I want you to know that you're not the only one with bipolar disorder/depression problems. I've them both so yea it's difficult especially finding out last wednesday that you have it now. Remember bipolar doesn't change for who you are honestly the person you're before you found out is that person. But anyways, I want to tell you something I had it since I was 13 didn't get on no medications for it since I was 19 so yea I hide it from everyone. I would recommend you to try and stay calm do what you use to do and don't loose interest if you do talk to someone about it like your psychiatrist and tell them what's going on, but remember to take your medications like the dr. order them right now.
I hope this helps you out some!

welcome to the club!
They will probably put you on a modd stabilizer, I suggest lamictal becasue it has worked so well for me and has antidepressant qualities.
They start you on a small dose so that you minimize any side effects risks.
good luck in this journey, you have a therapist to help you cope?

How is your depression/bipolar affecting your life? What areas of your life are hit hardest? Perhaps if you describe your particular situation with more details, you will find out of all our community, someone can always relate

Hi,
I was also wondering what test that made the determination. I was diagnosed when I was in the hospital after a manic event. I Hope everything works out. I guess the Risperdal is for mania. I was on that also. I am on Lamictal for depression and Terrel for the mania. Also on Welbutrin. I don't really know how much they are helping with my depression though.

Good Luck

Happy Welcome to PsychCentral!

Like the other's have said just because the doctor's said you are bipolar doesn't mean that you are stuck with the label. Don't think that you are the disease.

I wanted to welcome you to Pc and if you have any questions or concerns feel free to PM me.

Tell me about LAMICTAL . I will most likely find out my diagnosis tomorrow, for Bi-P, my evaluation is in the morning, I'm assuming they will conclude this following the evaluation while I am there right ?

Will they start me on MED prescriptions they same day ?

How will this process go ?

ask about starting out on lamictal, it is the first line of treatment now for bipolar.
you start off very small doses like 25 to begin with then work your way up slowly to 200mg, normal maintenance dose.
so it will take some time for a full effect.

It can stand alone as a mood stabilizer.
Keep us posted how it goes!
