I have been having issues with mania for the last couple of weeks. My pdoc upped one of my mood stabilizers, but last night I started feeling manic again. I have been taking 'extra' Xanax XR (2 mg) to cope with my feelings. Today I started crushing them to try and feel the relaxation sooner. Then I decided to cut myself, something I have done in the past but not in a long time.
I called my therapist because I was in so much pain and he wanted me to call my psychistrist. I told him I would, but I won't. I will have to because I am going to run out of the Xanax soon and he only writes my scripts month to month (I've had this problem before). I am scared to call the pdoc for fear of what he will do. Should I tell him about the cutting or and the Xanax or should I just wait until I run out and then call him. I see my therpist again on Friday. I guess my biggest fear in him making me go to the hospital (the pdoc). What do you think? Thanks

Sounds like you need more (or maybe different) mood stabilizers. Those get closer to the root cause in the brain. With Xanax you're just addressing the symptoms, and it's creating some problems for you. Don't be afraid to give the psychiatrist a call again. It sounds like you are in a lot of pain, and at risk of doing more harm to yourself. Go for the help that will do you more good long-term.

Your psychiatrist is there to help you. I'd let him make the call on what to do next -- if you need a hospital, you need a hospital, but maybe what you really need is a med adjustment and this is just a fear. Let him do his job and help you feel better.

I know you are scared of the possible consequences, but the Pdoc really needs to know about what's going on.

The extra Xanax and the cutting are only hurting you, not helping. Getting the mania under control is what's going to help.

I hope it gets better soon.
